Hi. I fit into the older and bolder category and am wondering if someone has worked at park/resort area for June and July as I must return for teaching? I see a few others have concerns about the younger partying set tooand I do wonder about signing up to blindly share dorm rooms. I'd hate to stay up all night and would also hate to be the party pooper! ;-) How has dorm experience worked as older volunteer?
I lived in a dorm in Yellowstone for 4 1/2 months this past summer. I had two different roommates. I am over 60 and my first roommate was 19. It worked fine as she was respectful. My second roommate was about my age and became a great friend. I felt it was a great experience. Would do it again.
Thank you for your response. That is encouraging!
Carol, alot of the companies have dorms that are set aside for us "bolder" people. East Glacier, Glacier National Park, has the Blackfoot dorm and to reside there you have to be at least 40. Another dorm is set aside for us bolder people at Grand Teton National Park. Of course, expect to share your room with someone else. When I lived at Glacier in 2005, I did not have a roommate. Just make sure you choose a room far away from the stairs on the top floor, and all will be good.
As to working two months in the summer, that is okay too - look for position such as desk agents, retail or housekeeper.
Good luck out there. I hear the wolves calling my name again - looking to join in the migration one more time this summer.
