So I just turned 24 and have always wanted to travel and work but I'm afraid if i don't get started soon it will be too late. Id honestly like to start at around 26 to 28 years old but worry I might get to be seen as "too old" only a few years after i would start to travel. Any suggestions or advice/input from more experienced people would be awesome thx :)
Personally I don't think that it's ever too late to travel. Just get out there. My personal experience included taking the really long trip at age 22 (6 months in Europe and 2 months in NZ/Australia) and then getting into my career when I got "home." And as much as I have enjoyed my career, I have not been able to travel like that again because of the choice I made to stick with the job and move up the proverbial ladder.
I think that that my road has been a safe one and if I was in my twenties, not committed to anyone/thing, then I would do it all over again and again. Travel, travel, travel. The work will come. And if the money isn't there, work while you travel. Plus, the longer you can stay in a place, the more you experience and enjoy that place.
There's a part of me that's envious of you being at that "time of life" and then there is the part of me that's perfectly content with how I did things.

SEEN AS TO OLD I'm 49 do you think thats to old to work and travel I love what I do. I was a single parent for 15 years and had to be responsable and live a stable life for my daughter. Think about it you might have to become the stablity for someone else child or spouse and miss out on traveling. Its not that I missed out on the traveling but it was cut off short and not that I resent what happend because I love my daughter very much, But if you have the opportunity grab it.

Sounds like you are at a decent age to start traveling. Yesterday was the past but today is all yours and you decide what to do with it. I know I plan on starting my travels in May/June 2008. Good luck figuring out what is best for YOU as nobody should tell you what to do.
I don't there there is ever a too early. I've started traveling by myself since I was 15. If I knew about other things previously, I would have started sooner than that. But i'm now in Vermont with one year of school left and I'm already planning more travels. Spring break i'm looking into just going to korea and taiwan and thailand or japan, but I go to Canada alot up here. I've also traveled up and down the east coast and all the way to California and i'm only 18. I dont want to stop traveling, but I know once I get out of school, it will be cut down. I feel you can travel and work at whatever age you want.
I understand where you're coming from by thinking 26 is too old. At that age the norm is to start trying to settle down, start your career, maybe even marriage and kids. I tried the settling down part, things kept happening to get in the way. Deep down I always wanted to travel and work my way around the world. Well, I finally got the courage to do it. The good thing is that at my age (28) I've had enough experience to get me into a supervisory role in my first seasonal job. So I won't have to make minimum wage and will make a salary I am more used to. So although at first I thought I was at the wrong point in my life to do it (I should've gone to college and done it younger like most people), now I am halfway across the country on my way to my first of (hopefully) many seasonal jobs which will allow me to work my way around the world.
And let me tell you I am so excited!!
It's never too late, well not while you still have no real major responsibilities (kids). Some places even take couples, so even if you tie the knot young and your other half likes to travel, it's something you can do together!
Happy trails!
