Living & Working in Great Places

Hey all, I am looking to work in Cooper Landing this summer and am looking for any feedback from those who've worked there, know someone who has worked there, or if you've visited, or even second-hand info. This will be my first time to Alaska, so any other advice on what to do or see would also be appreciated. I'm looking for a serving position, somewhat casual(I don't think I want to do fine dining this summer, there's plenty of time for that when I'm in the city), but where I make good money. After working many seasonal positions, I know that I really appreciate having a good, healthy, employee community, on the smaller side(200 employees max.). Also, I won't have a car, but I'm used to making do in the wild without access to city comforts. Thanks for any information or stories!

hey there- just curious, why have you decided on cooper landing? it's a cool place, for sure, but nothing going on other than the hordes of fisherman and women looking for the alaskan fishing trip of their life-- without a vehicle you'd probably have a better time in seward or homer (the most beautiful town i've ever seen)-- i'm not sure about homer, but i know seward has a bus system that can get you around and the ak railroad runs into town, so you could ride to the airport in anchorage or on up to denali--- overall though, i have nothing but great things to say about the kenai peninsula, so have a great summer and don't forget your rain jacket :)

Thanks for the responses,
I'd like to work in Cooper Landing because I've known a handful of people who've worked in Alaska and recommend working there over Denali and other towns, but I'm still looking at other options. It's actually a little late to be picky about job oppurtunities, although I've received a few positive responses from some lodges in the area. Thanks for the word on Princess and Gwin's, I'm glad I applied at Princess and not Gwin's. I also applied at Trail Lake Lodge and Otter Cove Resort if anyone has got the skinny on either of those. Can't wait to get up there!

Hi, there. Here I am waxing sentimental about my good old days at Princess when your inquiry catches my eye. If you go to Cooper Landing, or The CLAK, as it is sometimes known, you will love it. I worked and lived there for four years. It's a great community. Small, though--you will get real used to seeing the same people at bars, parties and bonfires real fast. Housing is key and remember to take your softball glove. I did a sketchy stint at Gwin's one winter which was definitely memorable but Princess was always my home there--they are an incredibly humane company to work for. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! Princess was no longer hiring servers for this season, and I couldn't find anything else in Cooper Landing, so my friend and I found jobs at Trail Lake Lodge in Moose Pass. The job sounds interesting. We'll definitely be visiting Cooper Landing.
