Living & Working in Great Places

I am doing my first seasonal job in West Yellowstone, MT. It's goin awesome and so I am going to stay out here for the winter. I am looking into working at a ski resort but I haven't really ever been skiing before so I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. So I have a few questions if anyone could answer any of them. So..
Where would be a good place to work?
What kind of job is the best to apply for?
When do ski resorts start hiring for the winter season?
Should I have prior skiing experience to enjoy my time at a resort?
.....any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Liz,

Personally, I'm not the best skier in the world and I can barely call myself a snowboarder, but it can be fun. There are lots of jobs at ski resorts that don't involve skiing, but generally you'll receive a free or discounted pass so you'll have the opportunity to get lots of experience if you want.

Most ski resorts start to post their jobs on CoolWorks.com in August, and they try to be hired up by early November. Then, they just wait for the snow to fall.

I'm sure others on this network will have suggestions of great resorts where you can work.

Good luck! Have fun in Yellowstone this summer!

I had never gone skiing or snowboarding in my life when I accepted a job at a ski resort. It's so much fun and it basically gives the oppurtunity to learn for free almost. I worked in rentals, so I had full use of rental equipment and pretty much every position gives you a lift pass. The place I worked at gave two hour ride breaks for each employee. I recommend working at a ski resort, it's gorgeous and fun and you get to meet cool people who can give you plenty of advice about snowboarding or skiing.
I have spent the last ten years working within different ski resorts.. If you want to stay in MT, try loone resort, big sky resort, or moonlight basin. All 3 offer housing. Start applying mid Sept. If you want a change try Tahoe in NV/CA there is Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Heavenly, ect that all have housing.
If you want to get a better idea of skiing, work in the ski school. All you need is computer exp and a smile.. if not, try the resturants.. they are always looking for a hostess ect
