The free shuttle to Tusayan only runs from Memorial Day-Labor Day. There is no shuttle into Tusayan at this moment and a taxi cost you $10, 1 way. So if you want to go into Tusayan quite a bit...make friends with someone who owns a car.

I'm headed out to the south rim with a friend in about 2 weeks, anything essential that you can suggest? and how about being able to get a phone installed in the dorm rooms, I read somewhere that the jacks are pre-installed, just wondering how true this is.

Katy,

They are very basic dorm rooms with mostly 2 people in them. Just a warning, bring shower shoes as they are communal bathrooms in Colter. Also, be prepared to sit in the laundry room as people do like to steal people's laundry if it is left unattended.
