I was thinking about work in yosemite this winter and I wanted to know if anyone has worked there or is now and how is everything there. Also what is the houseing like I read frist year lives in tents I just wanted to know what kind since I will be up there in the winter time... Hope you guys can help...
I don't know personally know anything about Yosemite yet. I'll be visiting for the first time this October and I cannot wait to go. My uncle goes every year for an annual hiking trip. This year they'll be renewing their vows at the chapel near the Ahwanee.
I'm sure you'll find some folks on here who have been there and get the information you need.
There are dorms there that are used during the winter. Also a few cabins but I'm not sure if they are used during the winter. The tents are about 12 by 16 with electric heaters in them.
I worked there during the early spring and part of a summer. It's a pretty ok place. It gets really crowded and smokey during the summer.
I worked and lived in yosemite for 18 years before I left in Apr 2007. Here is the deal. Get a job up there now what ever it is. The reason is the workers there are all in a union and when it comes to winter the only jobs at entry level would be at badger pass and the ice rink at Curry Village. And these jobs are given to employees who are there first and have seniority built up. When you are accepted for employment they will give you a commitment date. The housing up there is okay. This company has an over reliance on foreign workers. But still apply for a summer job and then if you get it you can bid on winter jobs which if memory serves me will be in the first to second week of Sept they willput flyers up. So if you want to work there this winter follow above and have a great time. Badger Pass is beautiful enjoy.
