Living & Working in Great Places

Hi all-
Wondering when the best time to start applying for next summers jobs, all the big companies seem to have jobs up already. I was looking at working on the railroad in food and beverage, any advice? There are three companies (princess, HAL, and the alaska railroad) any better than the rest? And lastly any thoughts on working management or line level??
Thanks!

Hi Sarah .... Rick Peterson suggested to me to apply around mid-January. This is when the various managers really begin their process of selecting summer help. You might want to read through Rick's various blogs as he does a pretty thorough job of describing the process and suggests ways to stand out from the crowd. Good luck and maybe we'll cross paths in Alaska at some point.

Just thought I'd add a link to Peterson's blogs...

Alaska's tourism is predicted to take another even bigger hit next summer. But businesses will be open and still need employees...probably fewer than last year which was fewer than the previous year. Personal opinion---Princess will most likely have the best estimate by hiring time...the mid-January as aggie wrote. There were some companies that layed off last year.

Hi Sarah,

I worked in Juneau AK this past summer....amaaazzzzzing 5 months. Princess, HAL have merged and is now called HAPA (Holland America Princess Alaska.) I would apply now online as they are doing most of their hiring in January. That way, they'll have your application on file. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about housing, pay, hours, all that good stuff. Good luck!
