Living & Working in Great Places

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Two seasonal Yellowstone National Park concession workers have been fired after a live webcam caught them urinating into the Old Faithful geyser.

Park spokesman Al Nash says a 23-year-old man on Tuesday was fined $750 and placed on three years of unsupervised probation for urinating, being off trail in a restricted area and taking items from the area. The man also was banned from Yellowstone for two years.

The second employee's case is pending.

The park's dispatch center was called after someone watching a webcam on the geyser saw six employees leaving the trail and walking on Old Faithful on May 4.

The geyser was not erupting at the time.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts general manager Jim McCaleb says the former concession workers were hired at the Old Faithful Inn and that such incidents were rare.

one ignorant choice resulted in a federal arrest and rap sheet and a 750.00 fine to boot....

Yeah, that was in the USA Today. People...

It would have been great if Old Faithful gave them back what they were doing... It was entirely too disrespectful. There parks are what is left of paradise and these parks need to be respected.

How they gonna respect the parks when they obviously don't even respect themselves.

Terrible. At least they got caught!

What idiots! For all of you, especially first timers - remember you are on federal land, not in some small town and crimes are taken considerably more seriously. If you get caught doing drugs, fighting, etc. you will probably end up with a federal rap sheet, and you can spend a lot of time in a very old, very musty federal jail waiting for the magistrate to come, once a month, to hear your case. At the very least you may be banned from a park for the rest of your life. As for going off trails, 4 employees in Yellowstone decided one summer, after being warned at orientation, to go swimming in the hot springs, and jumped in - most were burned to death immediately; the others died after excrutiating pain. Very stupid, very senseless!! Be smart so you can really enjoy your summer.

Christina, wasn't that those 3 kids just a couple of years ago? something like 2 boys and a girl or something. I remember when that happened. That was sad. They paid with there life's for some and the survivors scarred for the rest of there lives. Foolish people. There was also that one young guy who jumped in head first to save his dog.
