Looking for female hiking partners. Would like to find a few good women to hike the AT with starting April 1, 2011. I am not a super hiker and would like to start out at about 5 -7 miles a day. Also, I will need several 2-3 day breaks along the way so I can meet up with my hubby and daughter.( Can't be away from them that long)
It's too early for me to definitively plan that hike, but if I can save enough $$ to skip working that season, I'd be in. At least for some of the sections, if not the thru hike. My partner/bf wants to hike it also, but he has yet to do any long distance hiking, so I am somewhat skeptical. We may try the Milford Track (New Zealand) in 2010. It's only a four day hike, so if he likes that, then maybe the AT is a possibility. I find a lot of hikers bail after a few days of a long distance hike.
Yeah, I can see that happening. I have only hiked a few days at a time. I'd really like to do more this summer, but with work I don't see it happening. But if you do decide to go that would be great.
Five to seven months. I can only imagine how hard it would be. Also, it can be expensive. Several thousand dollars. It's easy to spend a lot more than planned. I know I always spend more and I always swear (while in the middle of a long hike) that I will never do it again...lol. I think it would be a great accomplishment to finish it. I believe only about 25% of people, that attempt, actually complete a thru hike of the AT.
I got to thinking about it and I really don't think I can leave me daughter for that long so I think I'll try to split it up over 3-4 years. That will help with the cost too.
