Living & Working in Great Places

I recently signed a contract for a position in Jackson Hole, but due to the lengthy stretch of land between my home and Wyoming, I have no choice but to fly in. While that warrants some relief as far as transportation anxiety, I feel that it will also introduce me to the problem of having challenges getting around once I arrive. More specifically, even though a public transportation shuttle will be available about the immediate city, transportation to Grand Teton and Yellowstone are outrageously priced...I suppose that most of them are geared toward tourists who won't mind to be charged hundreds of dollars for 30-minute ride. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any heads up as far as what my other options would be to explore the surrounding area.

hitch hiking is an option but you can always find dirt cheap cars for sale in the paper I got one in jackson last winter for 800 dollars and I still have it and it runs great I put over 10,000 miles on it so far. You can also rent a car for about 40 dollars a day. as far as in town it is so small you dont need anything but the free public trans.

You will have no problem getting around Jackson, it is not a big town I walked alot of places. There is a free bus system that runs often and can get you anywhere around town. Im sure you will meet some people that have a car that want to go on adventures.

I asked this exact question a week or two ago. I took a position with Yellowstone and I won't have a car either. For me it wasn't the idea of the traveling to Yellowstone but the expense of keeping up insurance etc while I am there. Plus the car I'm driving right now is very old and I was worried about maintence issues. I was assured by all who answered me that it is possible to get by without a car.
