I am planning a trip to Alaska this summer for the next season to work.I heard a lot about it and some co-workers went there but couldnt get much info from them.
I would like to know if anyone worked form Holland America Alaska Cruisetour Train or the princess one as a server/waiter ..i know i have to get my own place to rent and food ...If anyone did that before , please let me know how does it work? is it good money? how much average you make a day.? how much is the rent? should i consider the train job or work as a waiter/server for a land based hotel/lodge/restaurant...anything youmay add up to help me out would much appreciated. thank you all for your help.god bless.

I didn't work on the train so I can't tell you much about that, but I can tell you that serving in Alaska in general is relatively good money. Alaskan laws mean that you get paid at least $7/hr plus tips. Also, in Alaska overtime is by day not just by week, ie if you work 9 hours every day, you get 1 hour of overtime every day until you hit 40 total hours, then you're in all overtime. Housing and such are expensive, but if you could find a place to share with a bunch of people..... Of course Alaska, like the rest of the US, has been hit by the slower economy so the money won't be as good now as it would have been 5 years ago. Good luck and have fun in AK!!!
Thank you very much for your help..i have a few friends going with me, about 6 of us so i guess we can share a place..thank u again ..
