Hi...Im Debra from Louisiana. Im thinking of doing some seasonal summer work but am worried it may be too difficult. Id like to hear from ladies 65 and older who do seasonal summer work. Where are the best places to apply? Im a retired cook but I think Ill apply for retail work. Any help appreciated.

You will do fine - the only thing will be housing.  Glacier National Park has a separate housing unit called Menopaus Lodge, or Blackfoot Lodge and this is for anyone female over the age of 45.  In the Tetons they also have co-ed housing for the experienced people who are also older.  You will do fine!

Find your place you want to go with the job you want and go for it... I did at the tender age of 55 and loved it.

Thank you so much Ann. What area do you work in? Whats it like to work at Glacier National Park and the Tetons?
Do you know anything about Park Cafe and Grocery? I was thinking of applying there.

Hi Debtra,  I did my first seasonal position at 63 last summer at the Grand Canyon North Rim.  I stayed in the RV campground and it was quite noisy during quiet time.  I would say 80% of the workers were in their 20’s. The North Rim is 2-1/2 hours from the nearest big town which was too far for me.  I worked in housekeeping which got boring very quickly.  Then front desk for 3 months which was much better.  At the beginning of the season we worked 2 - 3 weeks straight without a day off because they weren’t fully staffed yet, so be aware of that.  I’m going to the Tetons this summer in the gift shop; only 40 minutes from town, so I’ll be much happier.  If you can keep a great attitude and stand on your feet all day, you’ll be fine.
