I've known about CoolWorks for a while but only just found the forum.
I'm thinking of applying for some positions at Grand Canyon South Rim and Furnace Creek Death Valley and have a few questions...
Is it worth applying now for currently advertised year-round positions, even though I'm not available until late September/early October? Or will the vacancies likely have been filled by then and I should wait until nearer the time?
How does the selection process happen after submitting the online application form? Do they conduct interviews by phone or would I have to go there in person to be interviewed and risk having traveled there for nothing if I don't get the job?
And lastly, how long are the year-round contracts? I'm guessing 12 months? Is it possible to quit before the year is up? And if so, how much notice does one have to give?
They do a phone interview, sometimes more than one. Contracts vary, but you should be upfront about your time needs, they don't like it if you don't complete the contract. It's not a huge deal, because when it slows down, they have fewer shifts to go around. But in general, it's best for you to complete it, especially if you want to come back.
Thanks. Point taken about it being better to complete the contract.
It's just that I'd love to live/work in Death Valley but I'm a little worried about temperatures past April time (especially since I plan to be living in an RV) and the only positions currently advertised are year round ones.
Yeah, will do. Do you think it's worth me phoning them to ask if they have anything from October to April, rather than spending hours filling in online application forms only to be told they haven't got anything for me?
Ok thanks man. I'd assumed that the year round positions required you to stay there a whole year by default.
Another question... Does it ask for your Social Security number anywhere on the online application? I don't have one yet but will do within the next few weeks.
Born in the US to French parents so have dual nationality but never lived there so no SSN. I've just recently applied for it so should have one soon. I'm moving to California in September.
