Living & Working in Great Places

I've been offered a position there in retail. Has anybody here ever worked for them?

I've never worked for them but I just applied for a position there too because Glacier is soooo beautiful! You'll have to keep me posted if you find out anything about their company and how they treat employees and so on. This is my first seasonal job thing so I don't really know what to expect.

OMG dont do it!!! I repeat, Dont Do It!!! My GF worked for them last summer & I heard plenty of horror stories about how that hotel is run. Its owned by a couple rich folks from las vegas who seemed to like rubbing their wealth in everyones face & had no regard for the fact that their employees were human beings & deserved respect, sanitation, & food at a minimum!! She was the gift shop manager & her duties wound up extending to waiting hand & foot on the owners & dealing with drama from the front desk, kitchen, & houskeeping staffs. They were working her 70-80 hours a week at the beginning & end of the season, and around 50 the rest of the season...mostly because the owners fired a large majority of the staff they hired because the employees did not kiss enough @$$. The entire property, hotel guests included, was without running water for about a week, there was a pinkeye outbreak among the staff, the EDR had close to a foot of standing water for a week or two, the poorly planned "luxury" tipis blew down in a windstorm & nearly killed a few guests, and towards the end of the season some staff members tried to burn down the employee cabins. The owners apparently were trying to make a profit off of everything there, including your food & housing...vegetarian meals in the EDR consisted of iceberg lettuce, any other meals provided under your meal plan were too small to fill you up and not nutritous enough to keep you going so you were forced to buy extra food from the small grocery store, which they then jacked the prices up on everything!

Seriously, if you want to go to Glacier get on with GPI...they will at least treat you like a human being. My GF quit in tears around a month before the season ended & did not get her well-deserved bonus because one of the owners mother's made highly innappropriate racially degrading comments to her & about her work performance (which, if you knew her, you would know she is one of the best retail managers I've ever seen in my life...anywhere!)

or better yet, go for the Park Cafe. They are right next door to the St Marys lodge & the people that work there are a million times nicer! I have already applied at GPI & we are both applying at Park Cafe next week or so...It will be her 3rd season & my first & it is definitely well worth it...just not at that hotel!!

Well, although I'm working for the Park Service, I'll be living right across the highway from St. Mary Lodge. I had suspicions about the place after reading some negative travel reviews of the place.
I've worked at Crater Lake for the last 5 summers running a tourboat so I decided to give Glacier a try as a seasonal Interpretive Ranger.

'Hope you end up getting a job elsewhere. There is nothing like a bad employer in a beautiful location that will ruin your summer fun.

I sent off a inquiry for st Mary's several months ago and they never got in contact with me so I nixed em as a possibility for this summer. I don't need to work for a place that can't even get back in contact with you. No matter I am working elsewhere soon to arrive in a couple weeks, but if that Place is that bad I guess I won't even consider them for future possibilities.
