I am in the mood for feedback I guess. We work with lots of employers who have many different ways to capture applications - on-line applications, PDFs, resumes only, faxing, mailing, etc.

I am wondering from you all, how much effort are you willing to put into an application process? Are there ever too many steps and you just won't complete the process? Are you willing to fax something to an employer? Mail?

thats an interesting question to me. hmmmm well for me I have seen many different applications and those that seem to want your whole life history I tend to stay clear of. I can understand some jobs require extensive backgrounds such as hi security clearance jobs but some I think go to far. for example I went on this interview once for a deli position and the lady wanted me to go back 25 years. Mind you I am 37 now and this was a few years ago so that question woulda taken me back to when I was a child. More then half my Life. I asked her bluntly why so far back. I can understand she didn't want to hire someone that was very irrisponsable while working with slicers and such but wow. Needless to say she liked my interview but the lady right after me got the position because she had 1 more years experience then I did.

Things have gotten so easy with the internet that I just take it for granted to file an application online although I would go to the trouble of snail mail or fax if required.

Often the application process is too long. It doesn't matter much if one has their own laptop, but it matters greatly if one does not and uses a time-limited computer (dorm, library, etc). Therefore it seems to me to be more of a matter of ability to put time into the process vs. a willingness to.
Also, application time for the next season is usually in the middle of the current season, so a person may have a very small window of opportunity to apply due to time constraints. A well-written resume gives all of the pertinent info anyway...
I wonder if employers would go for a "copy and paste" application on Coolworks. For Example, I would give the basic info such as name, address, etc and then copy and paste employer-specific info from my resume into a column such as this box I am now writing in. Then maybe another box for misc info such as "Why do you want to work here" or "List your strengths and weaknesses", etc, etc. It is a thought anyway...
I hope you are warming up there in Seattle. :0) We have a weird weather thing here; It is colder in Anchorage than on the slope... just plain weird.

Ak they do have a resume on the sight. On the main page on your left hand side. I did have a resume up there untill recently, accidently was errased, but befor the summer "08" season began a gentleman from Lake Crescent contacted me stating he had seen my resume on Coolworks and would like to talk about a possable position.

You are right. Most mountain lovers are herbal people.
Hey check out Devils Thumb Ranch in Tabernash Colorado or Wits End Guest Ranch in Bayfield Colorado. Both Pay well and offer seasonal jobs without the whizz quiz. Good luck and keep it green my herbal brother.

no most aren't but thats a mute subject. Most are natural food and herbal lovers but they don't love to intoxicate themselfs and put poison in there bodies.

I wish there was one application fit all - for permanent and seasonal jobs for all employers. So when you filled out one application, it could be broadcasted to all that you might be interested in instead of having to fill out an individual application for each person! Oh what a dream that would be. Guess, I'll have to keep dreaming?

Hi Ann,

I can at least say for those employers using our Staffing Center product (i.e. applicant tracking system), it is one application for all positions. You apply once with three job choices and the hiring managers forward your application electronically to other jobs as necessary or desired. We wish every employer would jump on board.

The applications are unique to each employer who utilizes our Staffing Center. Some examples are Princess Tours, YPSS, Deer Valley, Work Arctic, etc. If you apply with them, you'll get to apply for up to three different jobs with their organizations. This isn't a general application for all. Coming from an HR perspective, I honestly doubt that there will ever be a one application for all employers scenario. With respect to EEO (equal employment opportunity), it is important for employers to know who has applied for which job and if they are qualified for that particular position. If you get to bucket apply, it makes it very difficult for employers to say that you are or you are not qualified.
