Living & Working in Great Places

That's pretty much my only requirement (that they provide a vegan employee meals option). Oh! And a location with lots of sun! :)

Anyone (whether you're vegan or not) who worked at a place with a vegan employee meals option and *affordable* living cost?? Any help at all is appreciated!

I'm thinking of applying to Sol Duc hot springs, but their website doesn't really provide much information on employee meals.

Thanks! :D

Most of the large locations will not be able to provide for special diets... I would recommend a place where you are able to cook on your own or perhaps doing seasonal organic gardening. The large spots do have salad bars.... In Alaska I have found places to work where I camp out on my own (thus independent of housing/food costs of the employer), but that is only good is you like to rough it as I do.
Good luck... Akscootr

I can tell you that Sol Duc will try to do something for you, but you won't be guaranteed anything. We had several vegetarians while I was working there, so, instead of just making a huge vat of lasagna, they would make one with meat, one without. Same for most dishes, but I'll say that there were definitely those nights when they had no options but a huge bowl of mashed potatoes and salad. There is a badass little health food store in Port Angeles that we'd all go to and stock up for nights like that. Being a vegan is tough at a resort, but I'd say you'd have a better chance of getting someone to work with you at Sol Duc than you would at a larger resort. The bright side is that living expenses are extremely cheap. I think I paid like 250 a month including meals. I think each person ends up paying like 2.50 per meal, which is so cheap that if you skip one, you don't feel so bad for having to pay for it.

Hey, D....

Yellowstone can't actually offer a vegan diet, but they do offer vegetarian options at mealtime. You will also find fruits at breakfast and salad bar at lunch and dinner.

I tend eat very "whole" and include very little meat... and usually find something to eat with no problem.

I know a handful of vegans that have worked in the park for years.

Good luck in your search for a job!

I know when I ran the EDR at old faithful there were quite a few vegans there. I even had one in the kitchen as a cook. There was always a vegitarian entre served but not always vegan. The salad bar always had about 20 items, tofu, hummice the usual stuff

I know that Aramark at Denali always had a vegan option at their EDR. They have a salad bar, soups, and vegetarian entrees just about every day. Affordable? I'm not sure about that. Good Luck anyway.

Thanks everyone for your input. Sol Duc still seems like a good option and yes, I'll be super nice to the cook. :)
