when should you start applying for jobs? my husband andi want to start working in sept 2009 if anyone is hiring then. any info is a big help. we are just getting stated in this and retireing from the food biz after 10 years of owning our own place. we cant wait!!!!
September is kind of a tough month to start. I can think of two that start then, but there very well might be more. It's also possible that you can catch the last of a summer season somewhere from vacancies from students heading back to school.
Stanford Sierra Center starts sometime in September, I don't remember the dates. I remember looking at it because some short summer seasons end in Sept, but most winter places open a couple of months later. It seems like an interesting place to work, from what I recall seeing. I think it's somewhere near Tahoe.
The other place that I know starting in September is the first winter session for Work Arctic. You can check them out now in Alaska jobs. I haven't been there. Yet. But, um, maybe it's not a place and time for your first seasonal adventure.
Otherwise, I'd suggest looking at summer opportunities that last into at least mid-October. They are sometimes looking for replacements for staff that have to leave by Labor Day. It wouldn't hurt applying to them with the appropriate start date.
It's also possible that some of the year-round availabilities are looking at that time...Chisos, Yosemite, Sequoia, etc.
it's very tough to start in September. A lot of places do have people that come up that late because of people leaving early but it's not as available.
