Oh wow... there's 2 Nancy's here--lol! Hello :)

Nancy B-- Gosh, you're planned trip/new phase in life sounds really exciting. I wish you great luck. What a fantastic time you're going to have the moment you step out on the road. All those wonderful locations you'll be visiting the rest of this summer/fall. Enjoy! :)

Nancy L-- That's just wonderful you & hubby got hired right off the bat for this coming fall/winter. Congratulations! That's going to be WONDERFUL for the two of you!

I guess I'll just fill out some applications for places this fall to pick up the slack after students go back to school, see what happens. I may or may not have a fall to spring job where I'm living, but won't know till late summer whether that's going to transpire or not, so I might as well throw as many lines out as I can, see if I can catch "something." Either way I will *definitely* apply for next summer park jobs as early in the season as possible. :)


BTW... can anyone tell me how to edit my posts after I submit them? I click on the "15 minutes left to edit your comment" & nothing happens. I'm also trying to reply to specific comments, having my reply be "under" those comments, but instead they just line up flush on the right hand side.

Hi everyone! Just joined, and I'm so glad to find others with similar issues. One degree, decent jobs, but then I haven't worked in the last six years. I moved from FL to TN two months ago, and I can't find a job anywhere! I stumbled on CoolWorks and I'm hoping to find something before my small $$ runs out! I'm looking for housekeeping jobs, too! I'm tired of having to supervise others, and just want a nice job where I can help people out, but not have to manage them! Ok, off to read more!

You could be honest, put everything in the resume you would normally do and just say that you want to do something different. I guess some people in HR might get worried if they get the impression that you are over-educated for the job and think that you would leave the job quickly since you would dislike it or come to the conclusion that you dont feel challenged by the job.

Well... I now DO have an "official" 40 hr a week full time housekeeping job! (In 3 months of continual job hunting, applying to 3 to 10 jobs a day online each and every day, it was the only job offer I got!! I finally dumbed-down my resume enough to the point where I was asked on the initial phone interview for this job whether I had a GED or not!) I'm still in the darn city I live in so I haven't branched out to the Parks yet. (Stuck in concrete slabs & never-ending rush hour commutes... except my car broke down recently & I can't afford to fix it yet so I'm stuck taking 1 & 1/2 hr bus rides each way. All "extra" monies--higher hourly wage I assume compared to Park's wages--are going towards "city-living" & commuting.)

The main point is though that now when I am ready to apply for housekeeping jobs in our wonderful national parks (or anywhere beautiful with green or white scenery and endless trees & luscious views,) I will have a current housekeeping job to put on my resume--whew! It just makes me feel "safe," as though I know I can now get hired without any strikes against me or red flags or anything. I DO get it, that the Parks & all do hire older workers for housekeeping jobs regardless of being "over educated" or past job history. (In my case I don't have very much at all in the way of past job history. It's been school & under-the-table stuff for yrs on end.)

So anyhow, for me, a weight's been lifted off my shoulders for this. (Whew, whew!) Now what I need to do is get the hell out of this damn job I'm in cause it's absolutely ridiculous for me. (Nother story, nother time. :) )

I have been doing seasonal work now on and off for around five years. I just put down everything.. most of the National Parks and resorts realize people are making life changing moves. I have worked with several people that are Corporate America Refuges... ha ha.... However, you might want to highlight areas with the particular type of experience you have, such as housekeeping.. I literally had no professional Housekeeping experience a few years back and was hired by a resort On Orcas Island in Washington... just be honest, yet highlight the areas you are most interested in.
