Xanterra South Rim Information

Applied for and have a phone interview tomorrow for a F/T Time firefighter position at the south rim. Looking for more information from people that are there. What's it like? Is it worth a cross country move? Read somethings about Couples Housing thats a requirement but do they allow pets? have too miniature dachshunds (Johnson and Frankfurter) that are a deal breaker. Mostly Just want the downlow. Thanks for the input...

Permalink Reply by jackie morris on November 24, 2009 at 6:58am: in most places you have to have a rv to have pets...but management sometimes are allowed pets if they have seperate housing..like apts or cabins, but no pets in the dorms. ask during your interview. as a firefighters you might have seperate housing. good luck; ▶ Reply to This

Dogs are allowed in houses and privately owned trailers/RVs in the trailer parks only. You might get an efficiency appartment - but most likely a dorm room. Couple housing is limited. Your wife would also have to be a Xanterra employee.

I currently work for Xanterra at the Grand Canyon and I enjoy my work, my housing, and the Grand Canyon community. We have the opportunity to meet many people from around the world. The hardest part of living here for many people seems to be the remoteness of the area. It is about 90 miles to Flagstaff for a movie, the mall, or shopping.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by thomas salvatore on November 26, 2009 at 8:10pm: The canyon is so beautiful hard to describe when you can wake up in the morning and have your cup of coffe right on the rim looking out. Dorm housing for couples is rozier hall. But being a firefighter you would have special status so you should qualify for a apt or efficency. so the dogs should be ok. I had a coworker who had a roomate with a cat that i remember cause he had to move out cause he was allergic to it. There is plenty to do there and flag is only 80 miles away. there is even a mcdonalds at the entrance one of the most exspensive in the country like 8.00 for a value meal i think maybe more.
