I Just applied for a job at one of the princess lodges and have an interview coming up for a gift shop stocker position at the Princess Denali resort. Has anyone worked this position before, or have any tips and advice on the interview process for them? I really want this job! Also how is the housing and food at the Princess homstead?

I have not worked for the gift shop before at DPWL but I have worked at the lodge and know who your boss will be and who will be doing the interview for you. Shes actually on coolworks as well. I have pics of housing look under the group "deathstar" and have more if you need. Food? thats a tricky one. It depends on your palate. Many different things have to be considered when talking food at employee housing and employee dining at the lodge. If your picky you will not like it. It depends on who the chefs and staff are and that changes yearly for emp. dining in some cases. Many things are fried but they always have a sandwhich/salad option but that gets tiring after awhile. Like I said if your not picky you will be fine. They do try and make steps to fix what the staff dosent like because yes, you are paying for it but you have to let people know that a certain thing isnt working or is just downright nasty. One night we had crab leg and prime rib the next it was bean paste taquitos. needless to say the taquitos were not on the menu again. Also check out the blogs on Rick petersons page his blogs are a wealth of knowledge for first timers to coolworks and seasonal application process. Hope this helps and good luck. Nicole is very nice so dont be nervous.
Working in the giftshop? Boy, that would be a breeze! I have worked for their Mount McKinley Lodge for the last two seasons both as a housekeeping lead. I have to agree with Ryan here, the chow isn't the best, but they do try. (Just don't hesitate to let them know what is good and what isn't)
Housing can be tough matter. If you aren't heading up with someone in mind you would like to room with, you will be paired up with someone at random. My only experience with this is was during a point where over staffing occurred and I was forced to give up half of the room I called home that summer to a complete stranger. Suffice to say, he didn't last long. and what experience I did have with him was HORRENDOUS. But most people don't have horror stories like mine, so I wouldn't worry much. It's arranged dormitory style, two beds to a relatively small room w/ bathroom.
I wish you luck on the long road of love and life my friend. Making it all the way through the season can be tough, and you may need it.
David, I was the Gift Shop Stocker last summer. I did apply again this year. However it appears they want someone new. The job is a good one and the lodge is also good. Denali is beautiful. The job is stressful in the beginning because of the volume of items arriving to set up the Gift Shops for the summer. The real key is to stay as current as possible and ask for help sooner rather than later. Here is a summary of the job that I did last summer. Be aware they may change the responsibilities.
•Receive, unpack and examine incoming shipments, rejecting damaged items, record shortages and correspond with buyer to rectify returns, shortages or other outstanding issues.
•Fill and deliver daily replenishment inventory to Gift Shops.
•Follow up on open orders and process backorder reports and returns.
•Manage inventory to include; rotation of dated inventory, track expiring inventory, price and stock new inventory items in assigned areas.
•File paperwork (PO’s, packing slips, returns, transfers, etc.).
•Pack and ship Lodge guests’ purchased items.
•Assist with season end inventory.
If you let me know who you will interview with and who you will work for, I'll be better able to give you some more insight.
