Hi!
I'm excited about coming to Alaska soon - and wondering if I should get a flight that comes in to Anchorage on the 3rd or 4th - and then plan to stay someplace in Anchorage and enjoy the local sites there - the Natural History Museum, etc - all just in case Mt. Redoubt is spewing ash and a flight might need to be delayed. I like to be on time wherever I'm going and I CERTAINLY want to arrive on time - on May 5th!
Perhaps someone else would like to arrive a bit early and have a little time to look around too - and possibly prevent a last-minute delay.
What do you think?
Is that an overreaction to the Mt. Redoubt news?
Once I get that figured out, I'll be watching for news and views about everything Alaskan.
Thanks!

Barb,

No overreaction to Mt Redoubt - if history repeats itself, the volcano will be erupting on and off over the next few months. May not be a bad idea to arrive early if your schedule allows. Anchorage's downtown area is pleasant - a couple of things worth checking out are the Old City Hall which offers an interesting display on city history in its lobby. Check out the hertiage museums and take a walk on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, which runs through downtown and along the water for about 11 miles. Enjoy...

Hi,
We are driving up for the summer and will leave home on Monday. If you have any suggestions of things to bring or not bother with please let me know.
I am so excited about this new adventure. We were on a Princess cruise and land tour in 2003 and at that time decided we'd love to try to work for Princess at the Denali Lodge once we retired from our jobs. Now our dream is coming true!!
One of the things we are hoping to do is hike. We did the bus tour into the park when we were there but didn't have the time to do much more than that.
Thanks, Carolyn Mulcahy

Hay Carolyn,

What an adventure you about to undertake. The scenery is awe inspiring. My husband and I drove to Denali to work for a season. This will be our 5TH. Jenny was right when she said this place will grab you.The hiking is great rather you want to go for an hour or a day. Hiking sticks help with some of the trails.
Just remember bring things you can't live without but remember storage space is limited in housing. If you have certain cold, allergy, vitimins etc. that you take bring them. We can get
basics but again choice is limited. It may be chilly for a while when you get there, be prepared.
Welcome to Denali. You are in for a great adventure.
