Living & Working in Great Places

What are the dorms like for single retired women verses rv sites?

Carol - housing is always an issue for those of us who are used to all the comforts of home. You must give up that notion or you will be unhappy. You will most likely share a dorm with another woman (hopefully your age). Some places are better than others. Your own RV is better if wherever you go has space for it, or space for one person (sometimes space is so limited they like to reserve for a couple, two employees). You didn't say where you are interested in going? This life is an amazing adventure but not for those anticipating creature comforts. The scenery, recreation, new friends, animals and the overall wonderful experience outweighs the small inconveniences.

Christina, Thanks for the reply. I am gathering info since I will be retiring at the great young age of 55 in 3 years. I have waited to do this for years. I guess when you live alone for years I wonder how it will be to have to share space, YIKES. Anyways I need to make a decision next year to either buy a new car or a rv. I bet the life is very amazing.

I forgot to say I am considering the Tetons, Yellowstone or Glacier.

Buy the RV. LOL
Then you can have it both ways.

I plan to buy an RV in a year or so myself, so the housing issue becomes less of a problem. I have worked at all three, Yellowstone, Tetons and Glacier, and love them all for some of the same, and some different reasons. My email is champ12127@aol.com. I will be glad to give you more information when you get ready to apply.

hi carol,
i am 58, and unless you get in a dorm away from the ones who stay up half the night, you won't get any sleep. they usually have to call a security person, or manager to break up the noise makers. there is always someone drunk, who wants to find someone to party with. buy a small rv, like Don mentioned. it will be like having your own space, and QUIET!!!! alot of people have habits, that are not your own, and could be annoying. don't believe that the park you dicide to work in,(that the room is only for sleeping in). i was always stressed out at each park, because the noise makers would start, as soon as i went to bed. you would be able to make a snack or your own meals also. better, than EDR food, although it is not bad, it is mostly processed food. Good Luck & hope to see you at one of the parks!!

Hi, I've been planning the same thing for years. I was going to retire last year at 56, but with the economy, gas prices, I didn't. I may next year after I sell the house (now painting and repairing). I wanted to stay at the dorms in Yellowstone Park first. Maybe we'll be there at the same time?! That would be fun. I'm in Texas, where are you from?

Hello,

I hope to be there in 3 years! I can hardly wait. I am from Dearborn Michigan. I have a brother who lives in Austin Texas.

Hello
The rv is the way to go. I'll be working at the Tetons this summer and living in the employee rv park. Can't wait!! The rv is great because you can have all your stuff and eat your own food and after the season is over off you go to the next destination such as Palm Springs or Southern California. Living in an rv is very liberating and I have been doing it alone for two years and probably considered older and bolder. I used to have a 35 foot rv and downsized to a 22 foot rv and love it. Bigger is not always better. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the inspiration RVGAL as I am a bit apprehensive doing it alone! What are the RV employee parks like?
