I understand there's a Governor there whose from Wasilla. Maybe Sarah can help you......sorry just a joke. Sounds like a great place; never been there so can't be of any help.

Has anyone been to Big Bend TX, Chisos Mts. I plan to go there next spring. Is there anything to do, it seems so remote. Thanks

Hi Keith, thanks for the reply I checked her page and couldn't find it "BEWARE". You are probably right she or someone deleted it.
Keith Larson Comment by Keith Larson on September 1, 2008 at 2:25pm
Rita--I think Tammy's "Beware" was written as a blog on her page not this specific group's forum, if I remember correctly. Several of the comments placed on the entry were less than favorable of her assessment of GTLC. She might have chosen to delete the blog, especially since she stated in her last comment that she was leaving never to return to seasonal work.

Linda--First: August/early September is one of the slowest times on CoolWorks and myCoolWorks. Those regulars doing full seasons have a very busy work schedule, but they have also noticed that their time is ticking quickly and how much they want to do yet. They rarely take the time to go to the 'net. Also those that regularly look for winter spots did most of their time in June and early July and have something lined up by now. They don't always choose to come back until they look for the next summer gig sometime late December or January. It will peak sometime during April or early May. Not only from job-seekers but the summer seasons tend to be longer, there are definitely more options, and more first-timers excited about their new 'life.'

Second: About your search. There are very few warm weather winter ranches compared to summer operations. That's not only those that recruit on CoolWorks.com, but also in the various rancher associations. Those that do operate in the winter also tend to be much smaller in size compared to their summer counterparts. By early summer these places easily have 20-25 qualified applicants for EACH position not counting any of their staff that are seeking to return. There will be possible openings, but only from workers that have decided late to back out on their agreements for whatever reasons. Or start the season only to find that the fit isn't right.

If the warm weather part is your most impotant part of the search, there might be some openings in Death Valley, Chisos, or Florida, but I don't think any of these have anything to do with horses.

There may be some cold weather ranches, some operate year around. But these are few also, with people staying sometimes for years. There are, of course, other non-horse-related cold weather opportunities open yet.

I didn't post this earlier, because I didn't want to discourage you completely. That opportunity may pop up! But seeking warm weather operations beginning in August is at best--difficult.

Thanks Rita. I'm kinda bummed that this group is not active or very helpful. I thought this would be a great place to find resources. I appreciate your suggestion about jobmonkey. I'll check them out. Its great to hear from you.

Hello Tammy W. sorry to read about your not so great experiences this past summer. What happened to the post "BEWARE" and all the replies? Did you remove them? I have a friend who will be on her way back to Florida from the Tetons in a couple of weeks and I wanted to share your post with her. She is working at a top notch ranch in Moose that value their employees and she will be sharing it all on coolworks when she returns.

Hi Linda G,

Your comment about the O&B group is about the same as mine - Everything in and nothing out. I've been a member for several months and by checking back every few days you can pick up some information. One other place you could check out is www.jobmonkey.com and just keep checking back. I'll be in the same position next years. Good luck.
Linda G Comment by Linda G on August 15, 2008 at 2:07pm
Where are all my O&B members?? It seems like there is no one replying. Is there anyone out there? With 100 members, someone should be online.....right?

Hi All, I am new here and just getting familiar with the website. Does anyone have any tips on good winter jobs in Arizona? Any help would be appreciated.
