What are some of the meals like for DNC employees. I try to keep down the level of fat and I like to eat lots of fruit and veggies. I also use soy milk. Do they have soy milk available in the dining room, or in the general stores, or will I need to bring some of my own? Also, is there a place they let employees prepare any of their own foods?
Connie:
According to DNC's own website, there is no cooking in the dorms, but i bet that doens't include...microwaving, there almost has to be a microwave in the common area of the dorms?
I have also been led to believe that the DNC meal plan @ $7.73 a day is a pretty good value, and the 3 squares a day provided can be eaten in the dining room only, OR a "sack lunch" can be taken instead of a dining room meal. As a cook, i can only guess that several fruit/veg selections will be available at each mealtime, in addition to the whatchmacarcass selection of the day. It would seem that also fish would likely be on the menu fridays...
If you were really into self-prep of meals, perhaps to befriend people in the RV employyee area? most RVs have full kitchens as does mine, and if you see me at Grant Village in my classic (OLD) Travco RV, pop on in and we'll cook something up!
