Living & Working in Great Places
Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!
My daughter was thrilled about working in the laundry at Gardiner this summer. She just turned 18 and is now having second thoughts about coming out to Yellowstone not knowing anyone and all by herself. She's done a lot of camping, hiking and river trips with her parents but I had second thoughts too when I realized there's no employee dining room at Gardiner. Any experience to share?
Yes, no dining room is a 2 edged sword. The shopping is very limited in Gardiner, but there are restaurants........ So food will be expensive, but she can at least choose what she eats. She won't be technically "inside" the park either. however there are hiking opportunites and the river goes right through Gardiner.
I hope someone who has lived and wokred there answers, and can give some great insight.
seems to me, there was some discussion about this on the FB page, Yellowstone Employees 2011.
i work there in 05 yes the the food there is expensives there there is a local food bank there that will help you with doing the first week till you get your first check she just going to have to buget her money wisely
I would say, that some people like living in Gardiner, and they like being able to prepare their own food, and have access to "nightlife" in Gardiner. however, for as young as your daughter is, I think this would difficult for her, unless she and her roomate could coordinate with meals, and/or she is on a more specialized diet.
I would try and see if she could get reassigned to one of the hotel locations. If not, then she should go anyway, and then try to get switched. There are alot of people who don't show up, or get fired, or go home within the first few weeks.......
thats an good ideal for her to that see if she can get swtich to another location
I'll be working laundry in Gardiner starting May 29, also have to clue about it. Never been there or talked to anyone thats worked there. So i'm no help, but good luck with everything.
And i have no clue how to use this forum so i put that reponse in the wrong place, haha.
