Yellowstone National Park - NPS New Releases

Yellowstone seeks comments on a proposal to provide Wi-Fi for park visitors and employees

The National Park Service seeks public comment on a proposal to install indoor Wi-Fi networks and associated equipment throughout Yellowstone National Park’s developed areas for the benefit of park visitors and employees.

Yellowstone visitation statistics for October 2019

Yellowstone hosted 170,038 visits in October 2019. This is a 22% decrease from October 2018. So far in 2019, the park has hosted 3,977,852 visits, down 2.5% from the same period last year. Due to snow throughout the month, some entrance stations and park roads were temporarily closed. These closures likely contributed to the decrease in visitation.

Yellowstone releases 2018 Visitor Use Survey Study

A peer-reviewed report summarizing the results of Yellowstone’s 2018 Visitor Use Study is available online today. The National Park Service contracted Otak Inc., RRC Associates, and The University of Montana Institute for Tourism Recreation Research to conduct the study to help better understand how visitors experience the park in real time, across the summer season, and across different parts of the park. More than 4,000 people responded to the surveys, one of the largest in the history of the National Park Service.

Hey, Bev..

I use Verizon, and never had any problems at O.F., Mammoth, Grant,  and to a lesser extent, Canyon. Lake and Roosevelt are the dead spots.

The best ones for the park are Verizon and Alltel (so I'm told).

I keep reading about how YNP is a dead zone for cell phone coverage, do most people just cancel their phone plans and get a prepaid/use land lines out there?  Trying to decide if its worth it to just cancel my plan for the 6 months Ill be there this summer, Old Faithful area.

I am working at lake yellowstone as a part of the kitchen crew. I am from Mississippi and am driving to yellowstone. I would appreciate any advice and tips about the area and the job. Thanks cant wait to meet some of you

The Lake area is huge.  You have the Lake Hotel and its cabins, the Lake Lodge and its cabins, a General Store, the park's hospital (though it's little more than a clinic now), the old Fish Hatchery (which is now the home of the YCR's Fish and Aquatic Biology operation), the Ranger Station, plus the dorms and housing for Xanterra, DNC, MEDCOR, and NPS personnel.  And that doesn't include the Administrative Area across and up the the road.  Xanterra alone employs over 400 people there, IIRC.

how big is lake? What's all at the lake location?

Comment by Pat B. on March 15, 2012 at 3:04pm

The only bad thing about Lake is the almost total lack of cell phone coverage if that's something that you're concerned about.  They were doing signal propagation studies and some engineering work for the new cell tower at Lake last summer, though.  Maybe they'll get it hooked up and functional this year (though I wouldn't count on that).

@Eric. You will like Lake. Nice location. I haven't worked there, but I've heard it is a great place to work and live.

So finally I got my contract today. I was told I would be unassigned until I got there, today while looking my contract, what does it mean when it says "LYH Location next to my position i was hired for?

that's a prety broad range of jobs.  The majority of employees are assigned to Old Faithful.  There are 3 hotels there, and the greatest concentration of jobs.  But look at the other areas, so if they offer them to you, you will have some sort of idea what is there.

Wherever you end up, it will be an adventure.  Just be sure to take advatage of the recreational oppotunities that are offered so it's not all work and sleep.  get out and enjoy the park!!!

alright Judy. :) I guess it is all an adventure-so that adds to it!
