Hi all, I will be starting my first gig at Tower store on Aug. 3rd. Hope to meet some of you and do some hiking maybe, or whatever you all like to do. I live in Michigan and will be driving out there with a friend who will be flying back. Any advice on things to bring? I love my coffee and wondering if I can have a coffee maker in my room? I just need my kick in the morning.... See you soon!! Donna Purdy

@Joel - the Elk Fun can begin in late Augustish and take off from there. There's a lot of bugling and Elk shenanigans in the Mammoth area and you can't beat spending some time in the meadows just south of Norris watching and listening to the show.

Here's a bull in front of the Visitor Center in Mammoth in October of 2007:

@David - I bet that would be a nice hike. We were through the West Thumb area yesterday so I have a visual now about what you experienced. : )

Anyone know the best time to view the elk rut? Is it early September, or more like late September? Thanks!

My favorite hike started on the road from West Thumb to OF. It was a trail that ran along the river to Shoshone Lake and then on to Lewis Lake. From Lewis Lake, there was a trail that went back to the West Thumb-Grant Village highway.

My other favorite hike started at the end of the road in the (long gone) employee cabin area in West Thumb and went up the mountain and eventually to Shoshone Lake.

Sarah, the sheets they give us are flat, so it is good to bring twin fitted. Some of us have been bringing a foam pad to make the old mattresses more comfortable.
Glad to meet some of the CW folks in the store, but not much time to talk as I am usually working in the Tower Bullpen area. We are really busy, but got in lots more people who will be starting in the store on Monday. We start split shifts then also... Store is now open till 6:30, but starting Monday will be open till 9. Everybody stands in the parking lot until 2 minutes before closing and then fill up the store when we want to close... I suppose it is that way most places.

Hey Folks - we're dialing in some details for our meetup on June 22nd. We're shooting for the Lake area, in the evening.

In the meantime come up to Gardiner if you're free this Saturday, June 6th, for the 2nd annual 5K Fun Run/Walk. Registration starts at 9 am and the race starts at 10.
