Those who party out there, be careful.....

Posted on June 7, 2014 at 8:45pm 0 Comments

I just found out that someone who I worked with at the North Rim who was working up there this season passed on last night due to choking on their own vomit.....Pretty heavy and unpleasant to post but I just did want to say...those out there who party, be careful.  Please.

Things looking like I can hit the road in June!!!!

As many of you are taking off for wherever your season takes you, I am still here at home in Phoenix, Arizona.  This year has been challenging for me so far and I have had to stick around to help my Mom recovery from cervical (neck/spine) surgery.  For awhile it was frustratingly slow but the past month it has been like BOOM, the pace of recovery has really been picking up.  I don't think it's unrealistic that I can hit the road a month from now, though we shall see.....I am thinking since I…

Summer at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon

Posted on July 11, 2010 at 5:51pm 6 Comments

Greets to everyone from the general store at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon from where I am blogging this! After a negative experience last year with a seasonal employer, I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and got back in the saddle again, and have been serving since 5/15 here at the North Rim Lodge. There have been some rocky patches and some challenges, but overall this is proving to be a positive experience for me and I am glad that I am here. I have had the chance to get off the…

My adventure is starting!

Posted on November 18, 2008 at 9:33pm 1 Comment

Just wanted to post here quickly that my adventure is finally starting. I am typing this in the computer room of the Grand Canyon International Hostel in Flagstaff, Arizona, where I am spending the night. Tomorrow at eight am I catch a shuttle up to the Grand Canyon where I process through HR and get assigned housing etc and begin my adventure up by the big hole in the ground. So glad was I to get out of Phoenix this morning, as the shuttle starting climbing altitude as we left the Phoenix… Continue

really itching to hit the road.....

Posted on September 13, 2008 at 3:30pm 4 Comments

Today it is 9/13, the middle of September. The weather in Phoenix has dryed out a bit and cooled off and right around the corner, maybe about four weeks away, the temps will once again cool off to the point where many people would consider it nice to be here. Usually I am very happy to see this time of the year as it means things will pick up, the utility bills will go down, life will once again be more pleasant here. This year however - I JUST WANT OUT!!! Triggering this is the fact that two… Continue

Yes that's true, but I like to keep it even more simple with one day at a time. Then I don't have to worry to much about 3 days or weeks ahead if I'm just thinking about today.

I'm sure I'll see you around my friend. ;)

Yeah, the girls must of thought that you were talking about dan, i haven't talked to anyone who is working there with us. lol. i'm shopping smart right now and getting a free upgrade phone instead of buying a two hundred dollar model:) i'm gettin my bus ticket next week which goes straight to st george for ninety bucks which is the best price and the easierst way about it. i really don't wanna go into vegas at all* not with the amount of luggage i'm going to have with me. so yeah. i'm also trying to get a room in the Grand Canyon with a kitchen right now which is going to be hard but I love to cook and having that option would be great! lol. i want it all baby! ha ha. really want to get the most out of this season and I know i'm going to be working alot so having a comfortable room is important. well, tell who ever that I'm a younge manager with three years of running restaurants who is fair and looking for a great successfull season. ttyl.

Hey rob! yeah, found a pair of arizona brand flip flops for ten bucks so i'm happy about the find. also got a nice blazer for thirty bucks which was 160 on clearance. not really into shopping. lol. well, are the two people who You've been talking to have a page here? you tell them You've been talking to me? i'm getting closer and closer to being ready to go. i'm trying to figure out if I am going to fly or bus it. so that is my main concern right now. plus getting the ticket in advance is messing with my head cause I need to get the ticket 21 days in advance. so that is coming up.

Rob, no i'm living in denver. been in colorado since 09. washington is just my home. i'm here till i get to az. i would be really greatfull if you could do me that favor. would help me out alot. yeah, i love love thrift stores. i plan on gettin my slacks and hopefully a pair of dress shoes there but my shirts i'm kinda wierd with and for the most part need to buy them new. i have so much i wanna take with me but have very limited space so in the next couple weeks I'll be doing my sorting and you getting an iron for me would save room which would be great:) i live across the street from a mall and I was looking for flip flops and the cheapest were 40 bucks! in three stores! i was shocked! lol. can get hiking boots for that price! by the way. your up late tonight! lol

Hey, just had an idea. i'm not taking a car with me to the north rim and since you are heading to hit the thrift stores if you can find an IRON for cheap and pick it up for me I'll gladly repay you when you get into the Canyon. that is an item i'm going to need but not able to pack since i have limited space. if you can please do, I'll buy you a beer too. lol. thx

Hey. i am looking forward to your trip pics from vegas. . gotta say i a little jealous cause I'll be working my butt off here to get my clothing up to par for az. not going to wear a uniform so i have to upgrade my outfits. also, i need to get a bunch of other things for the season. other than that i'm ready to go:) i have your number in my phone now and would love to talk with you sometime when I get a breath. lol. hope you are having a great weekend and I'll talk to you soon.

Hey, yeah lol, its kinda difficult to go into detail about what is going on at the lodge this season in message form but would like to maybe call you some time and talk with you. the game plan is that there are going to be lots of specials in the restaurant for dinner and lunch, always and big time. lol. that is what the park service wants us to do to be honest and that is what dan and i want to do even more so. when it comes to the wine list i was not that put back by it but think that it needs more french and other wines from regions other than what is given to us. your going to vegas! take photos and i want to see them when we meet in az:) i'm going to be sending in the corrections to the menu tomorrow back to dan in hopes that it makes things not only easier on the servers but that the guests also can understand more of what is GOING on. dan is very happy about what i have to say about the set up of the menu and i can't wait to get it up to par of a restaurant that knows what it is doing. lol.
