Hi Aaron, I guess it just depends on what type of work you are looking for. Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia has had its share of layoffs, but some industries are doing fine. Olympia would be a less expensive place to live and it's a cool town. Being the st...

About Me:
I am a former military brat who still loves to travel, see and experience new places, and tries to remember that the world can be a fantastic place if you let it. I've lived in Europe, on both U.S. coasts and in the "heartland". I love mountains, oceans, pretty much anyplace with a view. I've worked on cruise ships, hotels, restaurants, warehouses and retail. The cruise line I worked for went from the Caribbean to Panama, Costa Rica to Mexico and finally to Pacific NW and Alaska. Still looking for a place to call home, but not ready to quit exploring.

It's going to be hard to beat Signal.....

Hi Aaron, I guess it just depends on what type of work you are looking for. Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia has had its share of layoffs, but some industries are doing fine. Olympia would be a less expensive place to live and it's a cool town. Being the state capitol there are lots of jobs in the public sector and of course those jobs that support all of the legislators being around. What's your work background?

Hey Aaron,
I'm a former military brat also and still I have not stopped traveling; sometimes I wonder if I ever will although I love Alaska a lot. Currently a bartender/waiter, I have always wanted to work in St. Thomas and to learn to sail simultaneously. Do you have any recommendations, from a bartender/server point of view, that would be good to work at (good $$$, cool people, busy)? Any input would be appreciated... thanks for your time. Akscootr

I know what you mean about the cruise ships... I went on a cruise last summer and it seemed like these guys worked non-stop, long days, and had very little time off. What fun is it if you can't go venture out to the places you go lol. I couldn't imagine working that many days in a row without a day off, just to collect my thoughts and keep my sanity haha! If you dont mind me asking, how old are you? When did you start doing all of this? I've worked in hotels for about 6 years, and love the travel industry, it would be great to work at a lodge and if you fit in and like it, you'll put your heart into it. Sounds like a fun life.. i'm ready haha :-)

Yea, thats kind of why I am not doing anything this summer... not financially ready yet. Plus, i have a damn cat that i cant leave so i have to figure out my options with that lol. I've thought about working on a cruise ship, or even in the travel industry... i've worked in hotels for 6 years, but now i'm in the corporate world and hate it. Never been to Seattle but been to Alaska on a cruise and loved it.

Hey Aaron, welcome! I haven't had a seasonal job yet either, are you looking to start next year? Sounds like you've had an interesting life so far, why not continue it! I dont think i'll ever be able to quit exploring, seems to be in the blood!
