Just another comment after reading the other responses. If you go to Alaska, better have your own accomodations. Rent is very high and if you live in a dorm prepare yourself for no sleep. Young people don't need much and they go there to work and PARTY ALL NIGHT. There are a couple of businesses that run the Kenai Fjord boat trips and they hire every summer. Seward is a small but fun town. Homer is very expensive and very clickish. More fishing charter companies than anything else. Town for artsy people.

I found anywhere I worked to be quite safe for a single woman. It's like a big family out there. Just make a friend and everyone looks out for each other. If you like the water, check coolworks for California and Arizona. Lake Powel or Lake Mead I have been told are fun. I'm sure there are a list of several places if you just keep checking cool works. Good Luck.

I worked and lived on the spit last summer. This strip of land is a mecca for fishing halibut and has a bunch of restaurants on it. Lands End Resort is the big one... there are charters galore and the ferry stops there. Some people, like myself, are labeled "spit rats" for camping on the beach all summer as they work their season (I wear the label with pride :0)~ ). Across the bay are some smaller towns that are incredibly beautiful...Seldovia is one my favorite towns in Alaska.

The spit is a 5 mile long strip of land that extends out into the bay in Homer.
