Fires here started just south of Bridge Bay, lightning strike on Sept 13. For a couple days they just kept an eye on them. Then, as they escalated, and affected the Lake area, seemed they had an OOPsey moment. Very little business, and buildings i...

Sorry you can't make it over here, Jason. I'm sorta having second thoughts on wintering here. There's a couple other better ideas floating around, the pay here would only be $7.50, so you have to totally do it for the love. Humm.....right now the ...

All Is Well at Lake Station

We've had quite an interesting week here up at Lake Yellowstone. We became surrounded by smoke from the fires, until one afternoon we couldnt even see the sun, and our blue lake appeared brown. The firefighters increased in number and efforts, sprinklers installed around location, even on top cabin roofs. Helicopters, weed cutters, and rangers were kept busy while we debated the possiblity of evacuation. Firefighters were fed at Lake Lodge breakfast and dinner, sack lunches prepared for in the f… Continue

Connectivity

Now that the season is winding down, and all our newly made friends are heading back to college, Europe, or Texas, we have some extra bandwidth to play with. I've gotten used to No Internet (or only Town Day internet). I mean, really, I didnt come to Yellowstone to chat online. Still, I've missed the Cool Works networking, youtubbing, general surfing and such.

Now, with just 26 days left to go, and some incredible adventures under my belt, whats next? I've been challenged and rewarded by being… Continue

Still Wrapping My Mind Around It

I am absolutely loving Yellowstone. This amazing place they call Lake has captured my heart. I am now working at the Lake Lodge, cooking and learning about management in the EDR.
Still, it snows absoluely at will, we got 4 inches on the 7th of June. One past employee reported the coldest winter she ever spent was a summer at Yellowstone!
The people are fantastic. We had a great disco party for the employees the day before opening and inspite of my pending drive to Idaho in the early morning, I s… Continue

It was a real treat to meet you at Lake. I'm so glad that you could come chat with us for a few. Enjoy the rest of your summer. The view is spectacular and I know you'll take advantage of the cool hikes to be done.

Best,

Hey Carol!

I see you've been in the Park awhile. Pretty nice place, huh? I will be at Lake tomorrow around 10 or 11 at the Gift Shop. I've been working alot and will be doing a quick bit of computer updating tomorrow. So, when are we going to go hiking? There's a guard at Lake named Richard who is a friend of mine and he's into hiking/camping also. He works the night shift. Look him up if you need a hiking partner. He's a really good guy.

Let me know if you want to hit some trails. At the Lake area you definately want to hike Elephant Back. It's a good one!

NOW ..AS FOR WEST YELLOW STONE:

I was there during the winter and its kinda dead but its cool in the

summer..IM SURE...there are places that you can shop..like the HUNGRY MOOSE...which is decent price...and then when you get to the meadow...there should be another store...its where the bank is...and that place is so so..too... AND THE TOWN OF BOZEMEN,MT IS so so too...BUT YOU NEED A CAR OR BUS where there are shuttle services there...but the hours kinda sucks..but its cool...there are rental services at the airport and the

best deal is...budget....49 dollers a day..compared to others...which SUCKS!!!

Hey Carol ~ you are gonna LOVE IT at Lake :) The hotel is this big busy place .... but with a nice feel - it overlooks Yellowstone Lake .... gorgeous days there. Lots of people come back to Lake every summer - for the place and the people. I hope you'll be comfy there. What I like about Lake is that it's busy at night with guests, but more quiet during the day time (relatively speaking, comparing it to Old Faithful) You'll be on your way out in a week or so I'm guessing! The road trip will be half of the fun. Let me know if you need anything else! Safe travels - Patty

hey carol!
i was wondering if there was anyway you could write up one of the stories you were telling me about? I don't need anything AMAZING, but if one of them could be a little longer (like 2 paragrapghs) that would be great.

If you can't, I totally understand, though.

I'll be at OFI unless they decide to move me.. last call I got Larry from HR ask if location mattered to me and if I'd consider another location? I told him I was wide open but since I haven't heard back .. I'm assuming its still OFI.

Carol, I am really looking forward to talking with people that have done this seasonal work lifestyle for a while. It will be completely new to me - I was a corporate manager just a couple of months ago. I have decided my time is more valuable to me than money (i.e. freedom to decide what I do with my time) so I have a feeling that me and seasonal work are going to click pretty quick. Also, If you like to play Gin Rummy or Spades I can accomodate you from time to time.

Hi Carol, When I finally noticed the private chat window last night, it must have been too late because you didn't respond. The new chat is a little tricky. It was a funny group conversation, but it didn't seem like many of the others had anything to say, but I did come in toward the end. It's a funny bunch--myself included of course.

I'm mulling over that job I might take in Mt. Rainier. The only drawback is that it's very remote and with a work crew of only 16, but I will have my own room. I also wanted to be on or very near the coast. I still have a little time to think, which you don't have to bother with at this point! Lucky you. Jim
