Lived in Wisconsin all my life and worked various customer service positions. If you like hiking you might start by making a goal to hike all the trails at Mesa Verde (there are only about 8)  Prater Ridge in Morefield Campground is the longest at about 8 miles.  Probably the "best" trail at Mesa Verde is the Petroglyph Point Trail on Chapin Mesa (near the museum and just down the road from the Far View Terrace store/buffet).  Other ones I like are Point Lookout (Morefield) and Petroglyph Point.  I've done them all ... many more than once.  Plenty of hikes outside the Park as well.
