Living "intents" at ACE Outdoor Adventure Center, WV

About a month ago I packed everything that I thought I would need to camp for 8 months into and onto my backpack and once again, I knew I was headed in the right direction....away. ACE is an outdoor adventure center where there is over 1400 acres of property to explore, you can ride ATVs, horses, mountain bikes, zip lines, kayaks, rafts, duckies, go mountain climbing, take a swim at the lake, drink at the bar, meet tons of great people, and so much more! It is also where I am training to become… Continue

Insight on the seasonal world Part II

I love starting a new seasonal job and meeting all these new people....these new people who will be your friends, family, travel buddies, and maybe even lovers for the rest of this season...and probably your life. Some people have seen WAY more than you have and will be eager to share their experiences with you....and for some this will be their first time away from home and they will be soaking up everything you have to say like a roll of Bounty.
You also get the opportunity to live in a place… Continue

What I went through to start the seasonal world.....

I've been traveling for almost four years now and it seems that on every journey I take, I meet someone that's brand new to this type of life. I usually try to give that person as many tips as possible and try to make their first time an experience they won't forget. And every time I meet someone like this I think about my first time leaving home and why I really got into doing this.

As I've said before my family owned a campground when I was growing up so I was lucky enough to have a childhood… Continue

A little note with some tips and a big thank you to cool works!

Hi my name is Dallas and I want to start off by saying thank you very much to cool works and all the people who work so hard helping all of us pursue our dreams. I found out about cool works almost 4 years ago and it opened up my eyes to all the things that are possible if you just take your life in your own hands. It is true about what they say about traveling.....a lot of people just wont understand what your doing. Even if your path is so clear to you, it may be next to impossible to convey t… Continue

Let me tell you about my move to The Big Island, Hawaii

So I’ve got a little tale to tell you and it starts in California…….I was working at Stanford Sierra Conference Center in South Lake Tahoe and the fall season was almost up. I was dating someone at the time and we were discussing where to spend the winter. She almost had me convinced to stay in Tahoe and spend the winter snowboarding until she made the mistake of uttering the word “Hawaii” in too close of range! We talked long and hard about it for a week and finally decided to just buy the tick… Continue

Hey... I just recently was offered a job at Stanford Sierra. I'm super excited... even more so after reading your comments. Would love to talk to you about it. I'm from IL... noticed that you spent some time there as well haha.. try 22 years! (Hence the intense need to find an unconventional job in another state). I leave in exactly 1 month.. was hoping to get a little inside info, so I know what to expect...

the best "must see" thing while there in W.V. is the cat walk under the bridge. Scary as hell........It's like being suspended in mid air. I still shiver when I think about it.

I love Alaska. When I came here I knew I had found my home... The winters are fine also, but I have "city business" to deal with here. I much prefer the small towns; They are closer to nature where I can recharge my spirit. It will be very hard to leave Alaska even for the summer (I will be @ Yellowstone).... I know you will love it here. As much as I have been around this state, I haven't even scratched the surface (which is cool) because it is huge. There is sooo much to do for the outdoor lover...

Unfortunately, never Green Sand beach. We used to go to Black Sand beach in Kalapana all the time but I hear Kilauea has covered it up. I sure miss picking guava and lychee. We would go crazy on the fresh fruit. I was planning on spending the winter in Kona but was told by several that it would be better to wait for the economy to improve. Now that I am stuck here in Los Anchorage, I probably should have. :)~ Oh well, there is always next year.
