My question to you: Can you live in your RV while working at one of these places? I have dogs and would like to keep them with me while traveling and working. Denise

Yellowstone, Glacier and Grand Teton National Parks have limited sites for RVs. You can usually get one if you apply as early as possible - up to even a full year in advance... So far as I know, no housing in the Parks allows pets. Not many other places have RV parking, with or without pets. Lake Powell has both but I would not recommend it.

Hi Denise,
Currently, I have a full time job and a part time job. The full time job is in Grand Teton National Park where I make use of the optional employee housing. I pay $10 per day for the combined room and board package. I share a cabin in the woods with the engineer - bathroom in the cabin next door. The meals are very good.
My "weekend" job is 20 miles away outside Jackson in Teton Village/Jackson Hole - the ski and summer resort. While that job doesn't offer housing, it does have significantly higher pay rates and an excellent breakfast for the night staff like myself.
Having been mostly a night auditor, I can speak with authority on that occupation. There are many "relief" night audit positions, i.e. you work the nights off of the regular auditor. On occasion, a desk will have the night person work a 10-hour shift and the "relief", thus will work three tens. I did that at the Keystone Lodge and Spring Creek Ranch. They both had optional housing but it is rarely required that you take employee housing. Personally, over the 20-some years I have been doing mostly night resort operations, I have had little problem finding a second, part-time job. Positions for relief night auditors, night desk clerks and night security guards have been plentiful although this is the worst work situation I have seen since beginning in the industry at the start of 1985. One method of getting your hours just right is to take two relief jobs, i.e. work the weekends of two different full-time people for a schedule of 32 hours instead of the 40 of one full-time position. In a similar vein, many resorts - including my current Grand Teton Lodge Company - have short-term pre- and post-season positions lasting just a few weeks... To replace many college students leaving for school now, GTLC is looking for people to start now and work until season-end, the first week in October. It is a chance to get your feet wet in a position or resort or part of the country with not making an overwhelming committment. You get to see if the duties, schedule, pay, benefits and ambiance are right for you by going on a working vacation. I did a five-week, pre-season job in employee dining room of the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone, learning I liked the company but not the EDR, you know what I mean? Note: I don't know where or what you are anticipating doing, but the National Parks are an exception to the general rule of 40 hour work weeks. Being Federal property, the concession companies do not have to pay overtime until after 48 hours and they make use of this proviso, asking most of their employees to work 6 days. I asked for an exception in view of my decades of experience so I could have two days to work in town, bringing my income up enough to make it worth my while.
I went to a general interview by the parent Vail Resorts company last week. They assured me they were hiring many, many employees for the winter season. Vail Resorts is top drawer, a company I have worked for a half-dozen times. They have a resort in Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Valley. They have Vail itself and its Beaver Creek offshot plus other entities like the Rock Resorts chain that includes the Hotel Jerome in Aspen and the properties in the Carribbean as well. The company has something on the order of 7,000 employees at its annual winter peak but there is always the turnover in the year around employees as well as the seasonal openings to shoot for. Much of Vail Resorts has optional employee housing. Beaver Creek is a popular spot with Vail Resorts employees as they have high wages, an upscale work environment, good employee housing ( including some furnished studio condos for about $600 per month ), and a pretty upbeat workforce although somewhat less upbeat as the winter sports company has morphed into a real estate development company. My other company, Terra Resort Group, is - if anything - even better. Many people will compare notes there and say how lucky they feel to be working there. It is a job but it is hard to imagine any better company, and I've worked some 4 dozen front desks since 1985. They don't offer employee housing and Jackson has a summer where housing is very pricey. Nine months of the year though, you can live in an individual motel room for less than $500 per month. Throw your large screen, laptop, microwave and mini-fridge in and you can live quite nicely with your own hours, bath and entrance.
I hope this answers something of what you were asking, Denise. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Hi Denise,
I'd be happy to answer your questions. I'm working in Grand Teton National Park and Teton Village/Jackson Hole both and, so, have new info.
