I am the CoolWorks Pied Piper'ess, which means I moderate this network and keep up our presence on the Interwebs. I also help employers post their jobs on our site. If you have questions about anything CoolWorks, please ask!
I live, play and work in the Pacific Northwest. After college, I took IMHO the requisite trip abroad spending time in Europe and then New Zealand and Australia. Upon my return, broke and needing a job, I went to an open house for Driver/Guides with Gray Line. It sounded intriguing enough and I figured if I could drive my dad's old '68 Chevy Nomad, I could drive a 40ft. motorcoach. Well, this experience lead me to the cruise and tour world and I spent 11 years in the "seasonal" world on a FT basis doing safety, recruiting and human resources for both Holland America and Princess Cruises.
Since 2007, I have been a member of the CoolWorks crew helping folks find seasonal jobs, and I couldn't be happier. Hearing from people who, through seasonal jobs, find experiences that set the stage for their growth and happiness in life is a fantastic feeling.
That's a tough one. I once worked concessions for the Everett Giants, now called the Everett Aquasox and that was a ton of fun. The people I worked with were energetic, fun and we got to share in the ups and downs of a minor league baseball team. Real grass! However, through my job as a Driver/Guide I saw lots of things that I never would have had the opportunity to do so if not for that experience. For example, I once drove the generals of the navy to every port and base around the Puget Sound including Bangor Sub Base. I got to carry national sports teams to and from the airport, dodging plane wings. What a trip! Quite literally.....
Where have you lived and worked?
Everett, WA - YMCA, Panagopolous Pizza, Catholic Community Services, Everett Giants, CoolWorks
Pullman, WA - Regents Dining Hall, SALC (tutored students)
Seattle, WA - Gray Line of Seattle, Gray Line of Alaska, Princess Tours, and CoolWorks
Bellingham, WA - CoolWorks
Jokingly, Anchorage, AK for Gray Line of Alaska where I drove one airport transfer and a cruise ship transfer from ANC to Seward. : )
Make enough money from taking photographs to support my habit.
"First time since I "retired" in 2009, but I actually won't be working summer 2017....taking the summer off :) If any of you are remotely close to Pagosa Springs, Colorado give me a ring 713-898-6407. aka aggie71 or Ranger Rich"
I'm so excited to hear about Megan's engagement! How cool is that! I presume this guy likes a cold beer, and ball games :) I wish them the very best! I still remember the great times we had in Jackson Hole ..... even the crazy plane nightmares :)
Thank you so much for the warm welcome Kari Quaas,
I have heard nothing but good about coolworks. As I start my journey in my new home (motor home) with my dog an bird I am hoping to be able to find a rewarding and much fulfilling position with coolworks. My objective is to be in FL. the end of Oct. or first of Nov. but also I am willing to stop along the way for a position that is challenging and rewarding! I guess you could say my calendar is open along the path to FL. which that could change as well. I just need warm climate in the winter months. Looking forward to meeting fellow coolworkers!
I recently joined as I am hoping that not this year but next year, I can join those who work in the parks. This looks like a wonderful web resource. My only question right now is, when is the best time to begin looking for work if I want to work in summer/seasonal jobs in 2016. Would it good to start looking in January, or sooner? Thanks for the help.
