Profile Information

Hometown:
Seattle, WA
About Me:
I live and work in Seattle and very much love being a Pacific Northwesterner. After college, I took IMHO the requisite trip abroad spending time in Europe and then New Zealand and Australia. Upon my return, broke and needing a job, I went to an open house for Driver/Guides with Gray Line. It sounded intriguing enough and I figured if I could drive my dad's old '68 Chevy Nomad, I could drive a 40ft. motorcoach. Well, this experience lead me to the cruise and tour world and I spent 11 years in the "seasonal" world on a FT basis doing safety, recruiting and human resources for both Holland America and Princess Cruises.

Now, I am working for the mother of all websites to find a seasonal job, Cool Works, and I couldn't be happier. Helping folks to find that experience that sets the stage for their growth and happiness in life is a fantastic feeling.

In my spare time (HA!), I also volunteer for the Puget Sound Blood Center, am on the board of directors for Washington Business Week, and I run a small pet and portrait photography business called Kari Quaas Photography. My life is filled with fun activities and I love to make new friends living the seasonal life.

Last Seasonal Job:
Being a Driver/Guide for Gray Line of Seattle.
Favorite Seasonal Job:
That's a tough one. I once worked concessions for the Everett Giants, now called the Everett Aquasox and that was a ton of fun. The people I worked with were energetic, fun and we got to share in the ups and downs of a minor league baseball team. Real grass! However, through my job as a Driver/Guide I saw lots of things that I never would have had the opportunity to do so if not for that experience. For example, I once drove the generals of the navy to every port and base around the Puget Sound including Bangor Sub Base. I got to carry national sports teams to and from the airport, dodging plane wings. What a trip! Quite literally.....
Where have you lived and worked?

Everett, WA - YMCA, Panagopolous Pizza, Catholic Community Services, Everett Giants

Pullman, WA - Regents Dining Hall, SALC (tutored students)

Seattle, WA - Gray Line of Seattle, Gray Line of Alaska, Princess Tours, and Cool Works

Jokingly, Anchorage, AK for Gray Line of Alaska where I drove one airport transfer and a cruise ship transfer from ANC to Seward. : )
Dream Job:
Make enough money from taking photographs to support my habit.

Thanks very much, Brenda and Janette. Exhaustion is a good word for it. Thankfully, he'll most likely be out of the hospital today.

Thank you Kari...I believe it was "Divine Inspiration", because I've never heard or used that phrase before! lol I've been a part of CoolWorks for three years, but just updated on the new site. Thanks to CW, I obtained a really neat position at the Lost Creek Guest Ranch outside of Jackson Hole two years ago!

Hi Kari!...here's the scoop on my Chocolate job. I have been selected to be the Hershey's Merchandising Representative for Katy Texas (just West of Houston). This is a 20hr/wk, Mon-Thur job working from 9am to 2pm. I will get Fri, Sat, Sun off each week. They will pay me an hourly rate+mileage+quarterly performance bonuses. There is also a possible yearly bonus and access to group health insurance. This will likely take me out of the CW seasonal work market for a while, but sounds fun and different. I will establish relationships with store managers and help them maximize their sales of Hershey products (now who doesn't just love Hershey's Chocolate?) My daughter is due with our second grandchild next month, so I need to stay close to home the next few months and support her. Looks like Alaska will need to wait until 2011....but it is definitely still a target for me. I also plan to go back to New Zealand in the Fall of 2011 to visit my oldest son. Many exciting adventures to look forward to!

Thanks Kari, It was one of my favorite SHRA conferences, informative, picked up some helpful tips for next season, a lot of fun activities and as always, an opportunity to reestablish friendships. But by far the high point was the visit to the shack.
