I have lived & worked in Minnesota my entire life. I've worked as a Personal Care Attendant, a Server, and a "model" (aka Sales Associate) at the clothing store Abercrombie & Fitch.
I'm Lindsey. I go to the University of Minnesota for International Business & Marketing. I love scary movies, snowboarding, laughing, doing crossword puzzles, waitressing, and being on the run. I want to travel the world and experience everything. I am a curious individual, and when it's not getting me in trouble, it helps keep my life interesting. I think the worst thing a person can be is boring, so I try and live my life accordingly. Smiling is one of my skills. & if you can make me laugh- well, you're alright in my book ;) I've never been to Alaska before so I am SO excited to be able to work there for the summer!!
I was a server at the View (Mt. View)... I signed up to bartend at the Grizz, but they picked up a server from the View to do that, and I took his place... kinda sucked, but hey... when you're making 2-4 hundo a day, you don't complain that much. :) Only I didn't like was that they ran a skeleton crew, which meant we pulled A LOT of hours. They may or may not do that this year, because I believe that the management above Bill is different (and they made that call), but don't quote me on that. You're gonna get to know and love this little town called Talkeetna (worked by there for a couple years) and want to steal away as often as you can, but taking a nap in between split shifts is probably a good idea as well... when I first started, the salmon were swimming so I never took naps, just went fishing, and would crawl to work at night heh heh heh :) Now, you're gonna be tucked away from civilization see the same 350 people you work with all summer every single day, and it's gonna be tempting to blow your money at The Altitude (employee bar) or in Talkeetna... just giving you the heads up. But yea, when I talk to Bill next, I'll see what he can do about scooping you up. You got any experience?
Yo Lindsey, I talked with my friend and former manager, BIll, today, and he's going back to MPWL. Just in case you were interested in a different department (FnB), Bill is a great guy to work for... super easy going, and still gets it done... something you don't find that often in FnB managers... the guy never freaks out. Yea, you may get a more steady schedule in laundry, but in case money is a higher priority... the Mt. View made serious bank last year. I paid for my trip to Europe and a bunch of other stuff (including a new 12.5 m2 kite) just with the work I did in August. Just puttin' it out there :) I'm gonna try to meet up with him in early May if I'm not on a fishing boat.
Yea, living and working in Alaska is an amazing thing, and it's a rare bird that doesn't want to come back. You meet all kinds of awesome people, and the scenery will blow you away! It's far enough from the lower 48 and things are a little different that you might as well be in a different country... that speaks English and uses US dollars ;) You're gonna love it. Promise.
Hmmm... hit me up when you touch down (unless for some strange and awesome reason you decide you wanna road trip)! I'm trying to find people to ride with in April (early April)... gonna make a stop in San Diego, hit up t beaches for a few days, then camp all the way to AK via Oregon coast (maybe snowboard Mt. Hood on the way). I saw that you're all up for adventure, and that's kind of the mindframe I need for people on my trip :)
