You will definitely use your hiking/camping gear being at the park entrance. Im getting my merrells very soon. I'll be driving Shuttle up and down the road to the Grande Denali this summer so im sure i'll see you soon. Awesome last name by the way.

PS. when getting a hiking shoe it's important that it have GORE-TEX, vibram soles, arch support or some kind, and it's best to have a toe guard on the outside to protect from wear. Tall hiking boots are only good for extended, hundred mile hikes. Even then, if you pair a hiking shoe like the one I'm getting with an ankle or foot wrap it can give you the same support for really long hikes. Plus, hiking shoes are lighter and I personally get less blisters and more flexibility without the tall boot style.

Just make sure you get socks that are the right length for your shoe and with at least heel and toe padding that absorbs moisture away from the feet. Nothing is worse than having bad socks no matter how good your shoes are!

Yep! I'm looking at staying in Alaska for the next year at least. I'm throwing down probably $800 in camping/backpacking supplies. It's a necessary career move for myself. So feel confident that if you get some things for camping you'll have someone else to do things with. I'm sure plenty of other people are going to be doing the same. You should try to get some hiking shoes....they have the same function as boots but you can wear them daily. These are the one's I'm getting: Merrell Women's Chameleon Arc 2 Wind GORE-TEX Hiking Shoe. They're the best & most versatile :)
