Patty, will you help me contact people at Yellowstone?

Hi Patty. I wil still apply at Bryce. I don't know how they marked my file so they don't want to hire me. I also am thinking about Yellowstone. Let me know how you are doing.

Andrea, I do remember the tough schedule you worked in the Deli. You were a very hard worker.

Andrea, I am also going to apply at Signal Mtn. and Grand Teton Lodge Co. I am not too sure that Signal Mtn. will consider me but I am going to try. I am also going to apply at Bryce.

Digital Camera-Article

I am planning to purchase a digital camera for my summer at the Grand Canyon North Rim. I have been reviewing articles and reviews for about a month now. The article below was one of the better ones at explaining the details of camera options. I hope this will help those of you who want to purchase a camera for their seasonal employment.

I am considering one of two Canon models; Canon PowerShot SX110 IS($230) or Canon PowerShot SX10 IS ($370). They are highly rated and have more than enough fea… Continue

Mike: Xanterra did ask one of my references to write a letter of recommendation. She submitted it by email when requested by the HR office. It's not done in advance. It's after they call you. If you really want me to, I could write one, I guess.

Did you see all the IT and Accounting jobs that I found through the Grand Teton Lodge application that routes through Vail? Might be worth applying there, too.

Yellowstone is my "fall-back" summer job. I'm kinda needed here in VT, and my camper needs repairs. Not sure when I'll get back west/southwest.

PS - I'm not sure my file from Forever Resorts is going to read well either!

Hi Mike - My apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I ran it by Bill and we're both in agreement that it's totally feasible to apply for a late summer/fall gig. Many employers are thrilled to have applicants who can finish the season, particularly when the "kids" go back to school starting in August and others just don't make it to the end for whatever reason.

I am sorry to hear that it didn't go well. They're definitely different employer types out there. Some who hire light and don't care if their employees work a lot of hours. And there are others who hire heavier and give their folks time off for playing. The challenge is to find the happy medium.

I think that if you can get in with another employer this summer or fall, you help ensure your ability to get a different/better job next summer. Don't give up. And, like we all talked about on the chats prior to this summer, it's best to be honest when applying about what happened at your previous job. Also, I would recommend looking for employers who seem to have a good work / life balance policy. Talk to the tribe. ; )

Mike, feel free to call me or anyone on the CW team if you want to chat. I'm at 206-962-1345 or you can call the main office in Gardiner and talk to Bill or Patty at 406-848-2380. We're definitely here to help and wish you the best. - Kari
