"I am with steve all the way on this one. I was kitchen staff in 2010 ( with many years of cooking under my belt) and I was very disturbed by the lack of experience, leadership and the neurotic behavior of the kitchen management. Would not…"
I started working restaurants while I was attending university; back in 1987. Since then, I have worked in many different kitchens cooking a variety of cuisines. I've worked every position BOH, therefore, when I am in the…"
"I just finished a stint at Mt. Rainier 2010. I was EDR breakfast and lunch cook at Paradise Inn. Now I don't like talking crap about people, but but the level of incompetance of most of the management was astounding. The…"
I've been hired as a pantry supervisor at lake hotel. May 13th is my start date. I m driving in from the Texas Gulf Coast, but I m going to allow myself plenty of time cause I'll be visiting a college friend in Denver. we'll be talking soon.
I'll be at Lake Hotel. I haven't lived dorm style since university. Im sure that it will be interesting.
Your comment to me last night about driving from Texas to YNP has has spawned a whole new element for this coming season. I just had my car worked on and it runs beautifully. Yep, I am gonna drive. On a side note. I used to work at the Conklin Laughing Ranch in Bryan. It's off Old Reliance Road, about three miles past Messina-Hof.
My dorm comments apply to Fishing Bridge ... maybe Old Faithful is similar. DNC will provide bedding, blanket & a pillow. You might bring an extra pillow or two. Definitely bring books to read, a reading lamp, and a flashlight. Other nice things would be a dorm style fridge, an Ipod for music, games such as scrabble or rummikube (I love that game!), and, of course, hiking gear. I brought a bike but not too many bike trails in Yellowstone, and the roads don't have shoulders for bikers. Read my Yellowstone wrapup blog for other suggestions.
Hi Norel ... I lived in a DNC dorm in YNP last summer. It was adequate. I started in the Men's dorm @ fishing bridge (which is pretty basic). About mid-way through the summer I got the opportunity to move to the couples dorm which was much better. Biggest issues at the Men's dorm was really small showers and lack of hot water. On the positive side the food was really good for the entire time I was there.
Awesome! I will be your manager! I am the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at the Lake Hotel! Should be a great season! Lots of new faces from different locations! Definately bring some warm clothes because it will be cold when you first arrive! If you plan on doing any sort of hiking or camping make sure you have a day pack and an overnight one too and some good hiking shoes! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! Look forward to working with you! :)
