Hometown:
Florence, Oregon
About Me:
I worked seasonal so I could road trip and experience new places for more than two weeks. In my past life I worked in print production/coordination, advertising/marketing and loved it. My seasonal jobs: Front Desk, Jackson Lake Lodge (Grand Teton Lodge Company), summer 2005. Warehouse Driver, Grand Teton Association, summer 2007. Night Audit/Front Desk, Wuksachi Lodge, Sequoia National Park, winter 2007/08. Museum Store Clerk, Mackinac State Historic Parks, spring 2008. Update: I just got a full-time, year-round job that uses my tourism and creative skills. I am the Tourism Assistant for a convention and visitors bureau in my home state. I'll miss the road but I'm excited to be able to sleep in my own bed and wear my own clothes!

So I decided to take a job in at 7,000 feet in Sequoia National Park. The beauty is I could walk to work so I wouldn’t have to drive in the snow. Seeing as how I have a convertible, that was a good thing. (But I do have snow tires, just in case.)

The snow arrived late, in November, in a slushy mess. Then it snowed over a foot in one nig… Continue

Welcome to X,000 feet

Working seasonally in a mountain town, there are some things you have to figure out on your own. Like, can I really drink less here and get drunk faster? Here's a few things employers should mention at orientation.

Welcome to X,000 feet.

* For the first two weeks you will be soooo tired and feel lame that you don't want to hike or go out. Your mundane job seems to take it out of you. You just want to sleep. Just go with it. It will pass.

* Bring Kleenex. Disgusting things will occur in your n… Continue

Hey Angel - Kim is my supervisor! She's fun. Wuk is pretty good if a bit disfunctional! I worked for JLL in 2005 - love the Tetons. And I'm from the OR coast. Maybe you've seen me cruising in my convertible! I hope to get to Alaska in a year or so.

When i was there they did the bell boys took you to your dorms but, I don't know how it would be now. You can get a horse and buggie which are taxi's to help you. Let me know how it goes i want to visit up there this summer just to see if anyone i would know would still be there. Good luck. i am sure you will be fine. What hotel are you going to be working at? or are you just going for a vacation?
