I hear the trumpeting of Sand Hill Cranes

Posted on January 26, 2017 at 11:20am 0 Comments

Howdy y'all - So here, north of the Sangre de Christo Mountains. I have found myself working in the west again.  Sorry to say, I haven't kept up with my friends and acquaintances through Coolworks, but I keep telling everyone where to find a job working seasonally.  Good luck to all on the upcoming season.  Seasonal government job will be hard to find this year, but - keep on trucking!

Texas - Home of the free and sometimes crazy people

Home, home again once more in Texas... The Mat Sinking Unit was great and I did earn allot of money for the past season (310 hours of OT), but I am so glad to be home once more on Texas soil - Galveston! I hope all of you have a great season and someday soon, I will join in again.

Hey Kari, I need a new patch... old car got totaled and it went with it.

I hear your trumpeting... new season

My job at the Corps of Engineers W.G. Huxtable Pumping Plant is ending and my office on top of the river bridge is a changing.  My new job will actually be on the Mississippi River on board with the Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit.  This will put me on the river from 3 to six months.  If interested, look up Managing the Mississippi on YouTube.

So I don't feel left out as all of my seasonal friends head off to their new jobs.  Happy season y'all.   See you on the…

Leaving the Seasonal Call

Posted on April 14, 2014 at 6:25pm 4 Comments

My seasonal life is over.

I've accepted a permanent GS/5-2 position with the Corps of Engineers in Arkansas. Hard to believe that it was only two years ago that I left Arkansas' White River NWR,  and now, I'm headed back that direction. Guess I'm not a very good seasonal employee after all.

For those I've made friends with here... God bless you and I'll keep an out... hard to resist that migration call even when you get everything you want.

I hear the migration call

It is funny to think that for the past several years, I have heard the call of migration of seasonal work when I've been sitting at my desk watching the ducks and gees flying overhead.  Now, I can join for the coming year and I find my heart is singing with excitement.  Where to go? what to choose? should I go back into desk sitting, or drive a big old coach, or choose something different?  I think I'm just happy to know that when people start heading out to the various places, I will be…

Hi Ann .... hope all is well with you!  Thanks for thinking of me.  I've had a wonderful time in Maine .... I can see the end of the road up here.....leaves are slowly turning.  While I truly love it here, this is likely my first and last trip to Maine.  Would love to be 18 again :)

Hi, Ann, Good to hear from you. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm enjoying checking out the jobs, seeing which ones I think might work for me, etc., but I've got to get my life in order -- animals and retirement money -- before I can light out for that kind of adventure. Plus, it gives me time to get my sedentary body beaten back into shape to enjoy a different lifestyle. The dreamin' keeps me going. Would love getting to know you and some of the other folks on here while I'm anticipating and laying the foundation. Keep me posted on your adventures -- It'll keep me going.

WOW!!! Good to hear from you Anne. What a creazy time it has been the last year. I am not volunteering at the Army Corps of Engineers lake this summer but an leaving 5/22 to go to Ca. to volunteer for a week at the USOpen Golf Tournament at Pebble Beach. Then in September will go to Goshen In for the Escapees event followed by a Escapee trip to New York City for a week to see the sites and to visit a son in Pa. Then it will be off to Utah to spend a month in Zion and Bryce Canyon taking pictures followed by a trip to Az. Thanks for contacting me. What have you been up to? Rick

Hi Ann .... Thanks for the friend invite! Wow .... just glanced at a few items on your page and I'll have to spend some time here. Looks like you have been busy in recent years pursuing all kinds of adventures! I'm envious :-) You mentioned GTLC in your note ... after I get Alaska out of my system (next summer) then GTLC is a likely target for summer, 2012. I just love the Grand Tetons .... one of my favorite areas in the lower USA and I can see myself spending a lot more time there. Hopefully we'll cross paths .... I would love to meet you in person!

Hi, Ann:

I noticed that you've work many seasons at GTLC. I was curious how many hours people were required to work each week. I understand that it's minimum of 40, but was just curious if they gave two consecutive days off each week? Any help you might give would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
