My wife is a ranger and I worked 3 seasons - in Yukon Charley in Alaska and in Yellowstone - as a backcountry ranger. There are different types of rangers out there:

* Interpreters - doing the campground talks, nature hikes and educational outreach

* Backcountry Rangers - out there doing, you know, backcountry things

* Law Enforcement Rangers - Patrolling around protecting people from people, animals from people, people from animals, search and rescue, emergency medical, fire fighting and more. My wife fits into this category but there is a lot of overlap
