Greg Seats in China - Email # 3

Posted on October 25, 2010 at 11:00am 0 Comments

Another note from halfway around the world:

Greetings, all.

Still alive and well in Gongqin, China. Recovering from a nose-throat-chest congestion thingy. I'd planned to wait it out, but allowed two students to steer me into a nearby clinic. A quick check by the doctor, three medications prescribed, and $5 later I was on my way. While China has a long tradition of natural healing therapies, it is also fully on board the western pharmaceutical train. Due to the…

Greg Seats in China - Email # 2

Posted on September 26, 2010 at 3:30pm 0 Comments

Hi, all!

Just sitting here munching on a bag of sweet and sour fish soup potato chips. Oh yes, Asia has the wildest flavored potato chips on the market. Nothing so mundane as barbeque or sour cream with onions.

Students cooking dinner in Greg's…

Taking the Long Way Home - 230 miles through the Tetons & Yellowstone on a gorgeous fall day.

I had a meeting at the Murie Center, in Grand Teton National Park, on Friday and Saturday. That's a story in itself. What a historic location, a place with an amazing and important story. We spent some time in a cabin that has seen 5 US Presidents and many more movers and shakers. Olaus and Mardie Murie were among the first environmentalists - the force behind creating the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and much much more.

For the drive home I… Continue

World Traveling Worker, deep thinker friend and all around good-guy Greg Seats is reverting to email to update friends. Blogging attempts through the years seem to have a way of getting blocked over there. I'll post his emails up here from time to time if you all are interested.

Letter One 1 - August 29, 2010

It is an amazing time we live in. One day I'm kicking back in Southern California, and the next I'm immersed in…

Hello! Thanks Bill. I am so super pumped to find a place. Where do you think the best place for a newbie like me to work? I want to work in Montana most likely would like Glacier or Yellowstone be a good place?

Can anyone tell me anything and everything about West Yellowstone!! Please!  I'll be working with DNC at the Holiday Inn and have pretty much little idea what to expect as I was just hired over the phone yesterday.  What part of town do the employees live in?  How much are grocery prices in WestY?  What kind of entertainment does the town have in the summer AND in the winter - besides the obvious outdoors funtimes?  And, pretty much anything else anyone could think of to help me decide what to bring and what not to bring. Thanks!

Happy Holidays Bill,

Sorry I haven't been on coolworks as much, just enjoying the Park, and trying to get things worked out for winter & summer. Now that I have contract's lined out for the rest of the the season.

It's time to enjoy what West Yellowstone has for winter fun.

Cross country skiing, Snow shoeing, snowmobiling, and then over to Big Sky to learn how to ski and snowboard. haha... I never had it so good!!!

I've been working for DNC now since April, with a new contract that ends March 19th 2011. I start serving at The Holiday Inn here in West Yellowstone Dec. 20th and have been housekeeping, and doing maintenance until that date.

Hope to see you and the crew from coolworks here to enjoy what West Y-stone has for winter fun!!

Talk to you soon,

Clayne~

Hi Bill,

I think that was a different group that you read about....I recall reading that too. Back in 1969 the Mammoth YPSS guys (no girls in those days) took their meals with the Hamilton crew, in the old Haynes Shop. I also worked and roomed in that building.

Regards,

Stir

Hi bill, my name is carlie and kari told me to talk to you, she said that you might know the lady who just got the FT position with the sled dogs in Denali. I was curious bc I will be working up there this summer and would love the opportunity to get to help out with the dogs (even to just volunteer would be great). So if you have any information I would love to know. Thanks!
