Solo female travel - Nine myths and one truth

Posted on July 12, 2011 at 12:22pm 0 Comments

Thought some of you adventurous women out there would like this blog post by Stephanie Yoder on the Hostelworld Travel Blog:

So you have this great trip planned out, to a place you've really been longing to see, but you can't seem to convince anyone to come with you. What's a girl to do? Wait? I don't believe in waiting around for other people to make your travel dreams come true. I've travelled solo through a slew of countries from China to Cambodia and Scotland to Slovenia and…

If you want to be a Wrangler on a guest ranch, you'll need to...

Posted on January 24, 2011 at 3:00pm 1 Comment

I recently returned from the Dude Ranch Association's annual convention at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch outside of Tucson. Going to association conventions is a great way for us to find out how CoolWorks is working for our employers. (And it's TONS of fun!) Guest ranches have used our site for years, (my first seasonal job was actually on a guest ranch) and we hope some of you have had great experiences working on guest ranches.

Many people who want to work on a guest ranch want to work…

Hello Kathi, nice to meet you. To answer your question yes Silver City is my home base or I end up here every fall during down time. It's a nice place to visit and a nice place to live if you didn't grow up here but I'm sure most people say that about there home towns. How did you like Togwotee?

Thanks Kathi, the little ground squirrel popped up when I was trying to take a picture of some elk at Mammoth. He looks alot like I felt during my first season in Yellowstone.

Thank you Kathi for the add,

And I have to agree with the last post by Peter B. "Your pictures are fantastic and what a great smile".
Wow, you've been doing this some time, your so lucky!
I have spent a couple of summers in SW Arizona, almost bought a home in Bisbee.

I've been loving the area myself for about 3 decades, Yellowstone that is, I've lived in Gillette, WY, Drummond, MT, and Spencer, ID without a choice at first but grew to love each area for different reasons.
Now, Yellowstone Park! I've made allot of new friends here at coolworks, and look forward to the new season to make more.
Last year was pretty cool, I had told my roommate that I was going to know everyone's name at Canyon Lodge, and I did, within 3 weeks, I think I've made more international friends then American, but it's close.
Sorry to ramble on your page.
Hope to meet you sometime this summer, and keep doing what your doing.

With warm regards,
Clayne~

Hi Kathi .... Thanks! for the note. Looks like I'll be sticking with my Hershey's gig this summer. They invested some time and effort in training me to sell chocolate, so I feel I owe them some of my time. I will definitely miss working in a Cool spot this summer .... I had my heart set on Alaska. But I think I'll have more chances in the future. I really enjoyed Yellowstone last summer, and all the great people I met (including YOU!) I do hope to go to New Zealand later this year to see my son ... might be going near Mt. Cook again in fact. I'll be thinking of you if I do.

Yes...home of the infamous Laid Back Larry's (and I can't wait to tell them you said that...they will love it)! Kanab is a great place to live. I absolutely love it here. There is beautiful scenery every way you turn, it's close to Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell... I'm a little spoiled now, I think!
