Making of the Summer 2010 Decision

In May I’ll be heading back to Alaska for the summer. I have agreed to work for the Denali Gift Companies. I’m not sure whether it will be at the Canyon Gift Co. store, the Denali Gift Co. store, or the Denali Outlet Store. I also told them I’d be happy with either first or second shift, so I’ll find out later when I’m working.

Almost all of my experiences have included at least some kitchen work. But the last few seasons I have been looking for opportunities with more variety and… Continue

There is a bit of Gypsy in every one.

That spark of curiosity to see what is over the hill,

or around the corner.

It is not that we don’t like where we are,

and venture far and… Continue

Phone Interviews

As a seasonal addict, I find myself constantly on the phone with a potential employer. Yes, of course, we all know that wonderful romantic email dance where you fill out the application, answer millions of questions, attach your resume and references, only to have two weeks of your time end in the phone interview. The truth is, it is much easier to get a job when you can charm your future boss face to face then it is over the phone. The reason for this posting is to offer some advice to those… Continue

Let the Bidding Begin

For me, it is that time year again. That time where I spend my Christmas break getting a jump start on my summer applications. I find my family and friends asking me the strangest questions. Questions like: Where are you going to work this next summer? Will the cost of flying from California to Alaska be made up during your summer season? Will you be able to get cell phone coverage or WIFI if you spend your summer in Colorado? Yes, these are all good questions, but not the ones I am asking… Continue

A Time To Process

After returning to Georgia, and returning to my "old job" on a PRN basis (as needed) it's time to process my Yellowstone summer.

I made myself all sorts of promises.....I'll never come back east, I'll never work in a hospital again...I am going back to school...I'm getting out of F& B (food and beverage). Bottom line, a person should never burn bridges cause sometimes a they have to cross them several times in a lifetime.

I loved and hated my summer in Yellowstone.… Continue
