Living & Working in Great Places
Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!
In spite of my late start, I landed a fantastic job as line cook for Xanterra in Zion.
Did I tell you how Happy I am?
I leave here at dawn on May 6, begin working May 9th. Its a three day drive into country I've only passed through before. Last summer I really explored Yellowstone and surrounding towns. This year its Zion and surrounding National Parks and Monuments. Theres like 5 down in southern Utah.
Best wishes to all heading out to their…Continue
Sorry if you were on the edge of your seat for last night's post. I took my love to town and the blog didn't happen. Not really, hubby, but I did go into Gardiner with the gang. We checked out the two bars in
I had one…Continue
Over the past couple days I have met some really amazing people here at coolworks. I'm not all that surprised because we have so much in common. We're all headed down that road called adventure. I am one step closer to getting there, today I shipped most of my things UPS and hoping it gets there before me. I have read so many posts and chatted with alot of people and the main thing everyone is so excited about is just getting to where we're going. Did we pack enough and those,…Continue

When most of the non-seasonal people in my life find out what I do for a living, they often pose the questions "What is it that you're running from? Why can't you just settle in one place?" To those people my answer is I'm not running away from anything, I am running twoards everything, new adventures, new friends from all over the world, new job opportunities and many more possibilities to grow in my career, getting to live in beautiful places that most only get to vacation in. Who wouldn't…Continue
Let me tell you, I'd much rather work seasonal than have a permenant residence and the attached job and bills that goes with it.
I've worked seasonal for 2 summers' now. Both times I've had my employment contract extended, the last time for 5 months!! And this last job I didn't even apply to, it wasn't on Coolworks...turns out the place I did apply to had just finished hiring their staff, and passed on my cover letter/resume to another…Continue

An open letter to my friends here at Coolworks and my McKinley Princess Lodge family:
After much emotion and indecision and searching, I have decided to stay in the job I am at. I loved working for Princess and love the people I met there; you guys are tops! Great people to be around....I made some fond memories there.
Recently discovering a desire to settle down here in Alaska, and have a home and a life here, as well as some permanence, has tipped the balance for me. I loved…Continue
You guys win.
Its an addiction, its killing me!
I have to go back to Yellowstone, and resume the seasonal life.
I quit my PRN hospital job, walked away from a "key " position at an "opening soon!" french restaurant, and promised myself a summer of backpacking, gardening, reading and youtubing.
But, come January, my application goes in for Yellowstone, and plan to be…Continue

There's nothing like paring down material goods to the esentials. Some people think it should all fit in a room, a car, or perhaps a r-v.
How many pairs of pants does a person need to own at any one time?
I used about half the stuff I brought, amazingly, even a sewing machine and laptop. Never used my solo tent, just a tarp. Didnt use a single fancy outfit, nor a single pair of shorts (too cold!), never the wetsuit (for river running in a kayak, I thought), or my bike helmet,…Continue
I'm running out of pre Yellowstone chatter.
So let's talk weather. It's Spring in Ohio. Last night all of the flowering trees put their heads together and came up with this.
My allergies stood up and noticed.
It was 80 degrees today. I'm not ready for this yet. Just a few weeks ago I was wearing jeans and a sweater.
I look better covered up.…
Having worked all my life, (OK, so I didn't actually work for the first 15 years of my life, but I've more than made up for it ever since), I never suspected that once I actually got into a position of not having to work to make ends meet, that I would actually seek out, well, work!
For the past 20 years, the greater Jackson Hole area has been a second home for me - more like a refuge, really. I came out here with my young son during the summer to enjoy the…Continue
