Packing- Too Much?

I am getting paranoid about how much I have packed! Been reading over the blog posts from others and it doesn't seem like I am that far out of line- but seems many can get everything in a duffel and backpack. I have a footlocker and some of the recyclable grocery bags. Any hints and comments will be greatly appreciated.

In the footlocker I have packed-

Beach towel

Swim suit

5 short sleeve t-shirts

2 long sleeve t-shirts

1 Long sleeve…

The Alaska Marine Highway

First let me say that was the fastest 2 1/2 days of my life!  I also need to add what a way to travel!   I thoroughly enjoyed my trip from Bellingham Washington to Haines Alaska on the 50 year old Alaska Marine Highway.   Now, mind you, it is not cheap.  If you take your vehicle you will drop a cool $1,000 for the privilege of riding the ferry.   The only consolation is that the driver is "free" :-) It is expensive, but so is gasoline along the Alcan Highway. If you drive, you do the driving…

Just arrived in Jackson

I just arrived in Jackson about a hour ago and check in on Sunday. It was quite the Journey from Illinois. Luckily we didn't hit any of the elk when driving down the mountain side into Jackson. That was scary, they were everywhere on both sides of the road. Anyone else checking in for Jackson Lake Lodge on Sunday?

30 day Countdown has Begun!

In 30 days I will be checking in at Gardiner. 25 days til I hit the road! Got the new battery for my computer today and my foot locker should arrive tomorrow- which means I can start packing! I've already gotten all my camping gear out and cleaned up- except the tent. We had a few nice days here, but now we are back to cold, rainy late winter type weather. I do have to get that tent out and set up- make sure it doesn't need any repairs, count the stakes and check the seams and guy…

Traveling partner wanted!

I have a nice 25ft 5th wheel travel trailer, f350 to pull it and a suburban as a second vehicle. I would like to find a female traveling partner to team up and travel together working seasonal jobs around the US. HMU if you are interested... Hank  254-563-3040

I've gotten a lot done today. After church and lunch, I started going through my stuff. I set out and labeled three boxes of clothes: Leave at Home, Donate, Bring with me. After I finished going through my dresser, closet, and plethora of clothes on my bedroom floor, I started packing. I picked out some clothes i am going to bring with me but I am going to wear the next four weeks. I'll pack them the night before I leave. Then I folded all the leave home clothes and put them back in…

Driver Guide " Alaska Bound" Part 3

Here we go again...... for a third season as a Driver Guide in Alaska. What can I say, I like the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat as they would say on ABC " Wide World of Sports". I have been asked what draws one to travel so far for seasonal employment? I have heard this one numerous times, “Why on earth would you want to spend time in a frozen place like that"? There is no way to describe the beauty of Alaska. I have hundreds of photos. They don't do…

Mesa Verde Revisited - 2013

Have I got a hot tip for any of you near SW Colorado this summer .... you MUST visit Mesa Verde's brand new Visitor's Center.  What a gem!  I was there yesterday and was super impressed by the exhibits and artifacts on display.  Up until now the vast majority of Mesa Verde's 2 million artifacts have remained hidden in storage vaults.  Now the public will have the opportunity to view these amazing items in rotating exhibits continuing all summer :-)  After learning all the basics at the…

A Week in the Life -- Rancho de los Caballeros

Day 1- Wednesday 27 March 2013

This winter/spring season, I am working at Rancho de los Caballeros in Wickenburg, Arizona.  Those of you that have read my blog in previous years know that this is not my first time in the town.  I had worked at a small dude ranch on the other side of town, the Kay El Bar, for a few seasons.  Our work week runs from Wednesday to Tuesday…

Weird Dream...

I had this dream about check-in day. Apparently when I showed up to check-in, I had forgotten the second form of ID and they wouldn't allow me to work. I got really upset in the dream...Not sure why I didn't just call my parents to fax something over in the dream. lol
