Good Morning South Dakota! The greatest thing about camping is waking up with the sun. Well, at least I wake up with the sun. Angie still enjoys sleeping in as late as I allow her to. The KOA was a welcoming sight in the morning. Awesome day in Alaska

I was so lucky to hop on one of our company planes and take the hour flight down to fairbanks today. I needed to get some things in town and God blessed me with a awesome day !! I checked into the go north hostel which is very nice. I rented a bike planning to ride to wal mart to get everything I needed. I stopped at the thrift store and found some hiking boots that are still in good conditon for only $10 that saves me at least $70!! I can finally say I have been to Montana!

Today...for the very first time in my 59 year existance...I entered the State of Montana. The first few miles looked very much like northern Wyoming (fancy that) but then things began to change. The vistas became even bigger, and the mountains on the horizon slowly grew until they pierced the clouds and dominated the view. Any place named Cheyenne has GOT to be in Wyoming

After another outstanding day of non-stop, mind bending driving I am settling my weary bones in Cheyenne. I can't believe I am actually in Wyoming! One clue might be the 45 deg temperature outside right now (yep, this Texas boy is freezing his tootoo off ALREADY and the temperature is dropping). When I get to Yellowstone I might just park myself on a stove for a while and thaw out. Settling Down For The Long Haul

Here I am already a month into the work here at Mt. Rushmore. So far we have had a mixed bag of weather, snow,rain and sunshine. Sometime all in one day. We just about have a full working crew and can settle down for the summer. One or two have washed out already, other's moved into new position. The RV park we stay in, is all but full. The blink of an Eye

Well it seems that over the weekend someone turned on the summer switch here in Downtown Anchorage. The sun has come back with a vengeance, the trees sprouted leaves over night, and all the dang ol' tour buses have returned. It seems like only yesterday it was -35 and pitch dark here, but yet here I am soaking up the mid-morning sun in my office like a happy little lizard.

My summer home ~ Coldfoot, Alaska

I will be spending my summer here in Coldfoot, Alaska just 60 miles north of the arctic cirlce. This being said many people would think very cold. I am happy to report that the weather here is not so bad. The Brooks mountain range protects us from the cold arctic winds. This area is actually considered desert climate in the summer with many sunny days and very little rain. I will be enjoying most days in the 70's with night getting down to 50's or mid 40's . Grizzly Crossing

The winter I worked in Yellowstone, we had to wait for this bear to pass (March 07) with little protection except a few snowmobiles, a few tourists, and a Ranger's hand gun. We also ran into the bear the next day, except this time we were going the same direction. We had to follow the bear for a while and I was just hoping that he wouldn't feel threatened. We tried to keep our distance, and finally at Pumice Point (I think) we were able to pass him.…

Rim to Rim

Last week I got paid to hike North Rim to South Rim for my new job. It was an awesome hike with 7 park service interpretive staff that knew practically anything there was to know about the Canyon.

So i am finally here just hanging out in the hotel an i am so anxious to get on the shuttle in the morning. Trip Update

I'm at the Juneau airport right now, waiting for my connecting flight.



I took the bus/light rail system to the Phoenix airport. I wouldn't suggest it to many. It even became a bit long for me. But part of that was hauling my bags with me. I left Wickenburg at 7:50 am and arrived at the airport around 11:30. But it was only $5.50 for the entire trip.

The last sunrise

I left Wisconsin to get on my flight to Alaska I was blessed with a beautifull sunrise. I enjoyed it thinking it will be my last "Wisconsin" sunrise for a while, not realizing that would be my last sunrise for the summer. When I arrived in Fairbanks I was suprised to see the sun still up at midnight. Now at coldfoot I am further north and see the sun fairly bright at 2am.
