Here's my next installment regarding the ongoing adventures of Ranger Rich :-) Went on a road trip to Canyon de Chelly (pronounced Tsai in Navaho....or shey in English). Some spanish guy spelled it c-h-e-l-l-y ..... go figure. On my way there I passed real close to one of our most famous landmarks ... Shiprock.…Continue

I've had alot of crazy stuff happen lately, among them a serious surgery which totally prevented me from taking my job in Yellowstone. HR understood completely, staying in touch with me as my doctors put me on 6 weeks medical leave, which includes no bending or twisting my back, and no lifting any weights over of 10 pounds. A gal can't cook under those restrictions.
I missed working preseason at Snowlodge, and now, I'll miss Lake Lodge, and I do mean miss. If…Continue
In 12 years of working seasonally, I have never place a review positive or negitive about any employers I have worked for, however I am going to do my first. This is more of a warning then review, STAY AWAY FROM STOVEPIPE WELLS. I could go into a list of things that they would find slanderous (even though it true), so I will be stating my opinion. I feel that upon hire there we serveral promises that where not kept; job titles, job duties, working conditions, living conditions, and a…Continue

We inherited another new cat resident. Darn cats had already shredded up a couch and loveseat and guess what, wife wants new ones now. I thought of building the kitties a new cat tree to prevent them from furniture scratching until I found an awesome site in Canada. Cats love them! cat trees Canada They have a great selection of Armarkat models, all kewl looking cat towers! <a href=…Continue

As many of you are taking off for wherever your season takes you, I am still here at home in Phoenix, Arizona. This year has been challenging for me so far and I have had to stick around to help my Mom recovery from cervical (neck/spine) surgery. For awhile it was frustratingly slow but the past month it has been like BOOM, the pace of recovery has really been picking up. I don't think it's unrealistic that I can hit the road a month from now, though we shall see.....I am thinking since I…Continue
I hope you are all having a wonderful start to your summer seasons; I know I am. In the short 4 days I have been in Alaska, I have been on two dog mushing trips, been on a ferry ride and seen humpback whales, dolphins and one killer whale, have moved into a great apartment with two roommates (both zipline guides as well) with a full kitchen and bathroom, have been exploring Juneau (2 days there), have been exploring Skagway (since Friday), been out hiking,…Continue
It has been an exciting couple of weeks here at Mesa Verde National Park. My job at the visitors center is going well ..... I really enjoy helping folks get the most out of their time at the park. Also my weekends have been busy. A couple of weeks ago I took one of my new friends (Tom) on a day trip to Hovenweep National Monument. Hovenweep is a collection of Pueblo villages around 1,000 years old.
Tom and I did the 2 mile loop hike adjacent to the Visitors…Continue
